Star Trek has a history of great engineers. Personable like Trip and LaForge, gruff like Scotty, hard working like O'Brien, and, like Torres, always talented. The UFoP has a habit of granting some of the best ship classes to its crews, and the people necessary to run them should be of a similar caliber.
