The Festival of Life originated on Trill and can now be found on other Federation worlds as well such as the Trill district of Polar City on Rigel IV. It celebrates the joy of existence and life experiences. The festival is considered to be similar to Mardi Gras of Earth or the Bajoran Gratitude Festival. There is music, food, and dancing. | |||
Throughout the month long celebration, participants are encouraged to wear elaborate costumes. These costumes traditionally take inspiration from Trill history and mythology, however, in modern times it is not unusual to see a wider variety of costumes from artistic interpretations of various wildlife to pop singers. At the end of the festival these costumes are judged by the crowds in the Parade of Costumes. Onlookers judge the quality of the costumes and cheer for those they deem to have won best in show.
