Barzan military training starts by assessing abilities. Barzan's climate and limited resources ensure the population is fit and capable of surviving in the elements and a fight. Few fail the test. Many are good enough to be placed into specialties right away. Divya was enrolled in sharpshooting paratrooper training due to her skills in rock climbing, terrain knowledge, and explosives training. She excelled at each of these. During her required two years of service, she was air-dropped into the mountains to drive out local bandits and placed on a ship's hull to target an enemy attempting to sabotage her fleet. Her plans to join Starfleet directly after her Barzan military service ended were delayed, by the offer to join the Barzan special forces. Divya's mother convinced her that delaying entry into Starfleet would not hurt her chances but would give her experiences no one else had. During her time with her special forces unit, she received additional training and experience disarming explosives, making and planting explosives, and leading a small team to push an unknown and hostel alien vessel back through the wormhole near Barzan. She was discharged with honors. | |||
Divya did have to relearn some basic ethics at Starfleet Academy. This was explained well by her retired Starfleet parents during her upbringing. During her time with the Barzan military, their different brand of harsh reality ethics had to be adopted. Starfleet instructors took a little extra time with Divya to ensure she relearned their stricter ethics and to soften the mental edginess she had acquired during battles and her time alone on mountain ridges. | |||
