Unlike her older brother Anders, who was very private and reserved, Lina was an extroverted and outgoing child. As a child she always wanted to be in the center of the attention. Lina herself had never had the closest relationship to her older brother. Her older brother always seemed to be her father’s favourite child, but Anders died due to a tragic accident when he was eighteen years old. This was of course a blow for the whole family.

Lina Iniya Dahlquist was born as a second child to Frederik Dahlquist and Indian-born Dayamai Dahlquist in Goteborg, Sweden on Earth. This was where she grew up.
From one day to the next, the childhood ended for Lina. Because of the loss of his oldest son, his father suffered from depression. Then eleven-year-old Lina also felt guilty for not having had the best relationship with her older brother. Her deceased brother was put on a pedestal by her father and it seemed that Lina, could never be ‘adequate’ and was not able to do anything correctly in her father’s eyes. Lina was constantly compared to her ‘perfect’ older brother.

Unlike her older brother Anders, Lina was a very introverted and reserved child. Her older brother always wanted to be in the center of the attention very much like their father. Lina herself had never had the closest relationship to her older brother, but she and her younger sister Malin are very close.
This changed her. When she was at home, she read a lot and fled into the world of books. She also started running to get her head free. Towards her father she played tough and put on a hard shell to protect herself. In her teenage years she often went out with her friends and had fun. She wanted to have a normal life and not always grief. However, her father saw this as a sign that she did not really miss her brother as he did not understand her way of dealing with the loss. This only served to further divide her from her father.

All of this lead to the fact that Lina really started to believe in her inadequacy. She has a lot of self-doubts and has to fight the thought that her father might have been right and she is not good enough at anything. This is the reason why she developed a work ethic that values hard work as she constantly tries to overcome that feeling of being inadequate. She wants to proof it to herself (as well as to her father). She tends to be overcommitting though.
Lina is a social person. On the one hand, Lina can be described as a helpful, warm and empathetic person as she knows what it feels like when nobody really cares about you. When she considers someone a real friend, she is a good sport. On the other hand she also learned how to play tough and does not easily let you know, if you hurt her feelings or not. When she is in a bad mood, she can also turn very sarcastic and harsh. She let’s others know when she does not agree with their decisions or actions.

When it comes to her private life or family, Lina is very reserved. She does not easily talk to someone about it.
Lina bases her decisions on personal values. In her childhood she fled into the world of books and read a lot. She dreamt herself to other worlds and places, which was also the reason why she finally decided to join Starfleet Academy. As soon as she had graduated, she left home and her father to join Starfleet. So she went to the Academy at San Francisco. Her father was against it and also made her belief that she would not be good enough for Starfleet. Apart from that, she is quite a spontaneous person and enjoys surprises and new situations, which could also lead her into trouble or even into dangerous situations at times.

Her older brother always seemed to be her father’s favourite child, but Anders died due to a tragic accident when he was eighteen years old. This was of course a blow for the whole family. From one day to the next, the childhood ended for Lina. Because of the loss of his oldest son, his father suffered from depression. Then Eleven-year-old Lina also felt guilty for not having had the best relationship with her older brother. Her deceased brother was put on a pedestal by her father and it seemed that Lina, being so completely different from her brother, could never be ‘adequate’ and was not able to do anything correctly in her father’s eyes.

Lina also had to learn that showing her real emotions would only make her more vulnerable, so she became an expert in hiding her real feelings. She really values harmony and does not like conflicts.
Towards others, Lina could be described as a helpful, warm and empathetic person, as she knows what it feels like when nobody really cares about you.
Lina bases her decisions on personal values and it usually takes a lot of time before she finally decides on something.
In her childhood she fled into the world of books and read a lot. She dreamt herself to other worlds and places, which was also the reason why she finally decided to join Starfleet Academy. However, she did not join the Academy right after school as she was not really sure what to do. Her father also made him belief that she would not be good enough for Starfleet. She also likes to make plans and thinks that rules and deadlines should be respected, which made it very easy for her at the Academy.
However, she is extremely nervous, when she is confronted with unknown situations – like the final exam.
