''Doz Finch is a woman whose career in Starfleet has been anything but ordinary; originally the youngest child of four, when her brothers left Earth to pursue engineering careers, they left her to deal with their miserable and deeply troubled mother, throwing the most important years of her teenage life into gloom. But something her brother Wallace said not only stuck with her but planted the seed of escape —— he had advised Doz to fill her time by reading repair manuals, so that she could maintain and fix all of the tricky technology in their home.
