Later, when Ukinix beams a quokka into one of the holodecks, Kelrod contacts Blake with concerns for the crew's wellbeing. She warns him not to beam "any other cute fluffy animals" aboard without contacting someone first. Because of the incident, Blake is forced to apologise to George for how Ukinix quickly Ukinix acted—though refuses to apologise for the actual theft of the quokka. She claims Veritas is bound by the Endangered Species Act, which forces the crew to transport endangered species to a certified xenological sanctuary, which George's animal park is not. | Later, when Ukinix beams a quokka into one of the holodecks, Kelrod contacts Blake with concerns for the crew's wellbeing. As the Battle of the Bands event finally takes place, Blake remains aboard Veritas, and quickly responds to Rahman's call for assistance. She agrees to send Ukinix, Kelrod and Lafizatar down to the surface with medical personnel to assist with wrangling two loose and dangerous animals. Before Ukinix can leave, she pulls him aside to inform him about Sokarn zh'Kuujn's status as leader of the Cobalt Clan, and to be cautious of what she tells Ukinix. He thanks her for the information and leaves.
Following the end of the BotB, Zhou meets with Blake in her office. They discuss their previous interaction, Blake explaining how she'd felt steam-rolled by Zhoud—he explains that hadn't been his intention and apologises.
Later, Blake debriefs with Rahman and Ukinix, talking more about what might be a spore drive used by Henley Marths. While they idly discuss Puckapunyal tigers and Draafs, they are introduced to Lieutenant Commander Kamela Allison, who greets Blake as though she'd known her for years. Allison is aboard to brief the command trio on classified information: the Veritas is to pick up a high-valued prisoner from Karakka, though Allison cannot divulge who the transfer is. —and Blake immediately becomes defensive against the hush-hush nature of Starfleet Intelligence. Rahman stops an argument just before it begins. Allison is dismissed, and Rahman asks Blake to set aside differences had with the Parker clan until they complete the mission. The captain then asks Blake and Ukinix to catch Lafizatar's panther-tiger now on the loose through the ship.
In late March, Blake presents herself to Sickbay in hopes medical officer Ikaia Wong can alleviate her cold symptoms. Wong asks about the age of her thermal wear—which Blake wears under her uniform to keep warm in Veritas temperate environment unsuited to Brekkians. He suggests switching them for new ones when she says she's owned hers for roughly seven years. They discuss her memory, and she expresses concern she doesn't recognise Allison. Wong schedules time to run further scans, but ultimately finds nothing new out of the ordinary.
===Prisoner transfer===
After a long trip to Karakka, Blake and Roshanara Rahman transport to VoqmoH'tuq Prison to meet their mysterious high-value prisoner they're required to transport across the Shoals. The warden, Dar'kang, explains they'd arrested the prisoner for "ravaging Colonel Cha’roq’s prized petunias." They'd also transferred the prisoner to solitary confinement after they'd tried to organize a guard strike—Dar'kang refers to the prisoner as "silver-tongued." When they finally open the prisoner's cell, they're greeted by Kallo Ver claiming he's a victim of society.
Kallo is surprised he's being released so soon after being arrested, and Blake notes his odd surprise about their freeing him to Rahman. Blake suspects Kallo has some kind of knowledge that makes him a priority target for pirates, and muses the return trip to Star Station Esperance will be long and arduous. Rahman asks her to look into what Kallo might have been doing in the Karakka area. Along with two Klingon vessels, Veritas begins its journey back across the Shoals.
Weeks later, Blake discusses various theories about Kallo's psychology with Rairen Caide—much of the discussion was Caide reiterating to her that he was a sociologist, not a psychologist. Blake's argument that Kallo's compartmentalised mentality was fragmented like any functioning society does not convince him to engage much about it.
