Vermillion Vox was born on Starbase 237 to Dr. Samatha Vox and Verander Vox. Verander is a Kaelon scientist, (Current Age: 55). Dr. Samatha Vox (Current Age: 58) was originally stationed at Starfleet Medical, overseeing research into parasitic diseases. Dr. Vox was ordered to Kaelon to assist the Government in an outbreak of an unknown virus. There, she met Verander.
 
Vermillion grew up on multiple Starfleet ships, and starbases, as Verander’s work concerned galactic energy phenomenon. He is a leading figure on research concerning the Galactic Barrier. Her father’s work initially piqued her interest in science endeavors, however on every ship that her parents moved her to, she always found her way down to Engineering.
 
Growing up in insulated Starfleet environments wasn’t necessarily great for her psyche. Being half Kaelon, and being away from that world that barely acknowledged the outside galaxy, she could only indulge in her human side. While her father tried to help her with understanding what it meant to be Kaelon, his work kept him busy. Her mother’s duties as Chief Medical Officer on some assignments, or leading relief efforts on others, kept her away from Vox as well. She grew up mainly within the corridors of Starfleet.
 
Without a clear path in life, and very few options open to her given her tumultuous upbringing, she hesitantly applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy. Although she did not graduate with flying colors, or any colors really, her tests showed somewhat of an aptitude for Engineering, or perhaps Tactical. Vox never viewed herself as a tactical minded person, or even a slightly violent person, having gotten low scores in every physical defense class. However, the feeling of accomplishment when fixing something in Engineering always brought her joy.
