Martisha is the youngest child of Tomas and Natalia (née Szabo) Zale. She was born in south eastern Slovakia, near the border of Hungary. As a child, Martisha grew interested in a wide array of subjects ranging from botany, ornithology and other natural sciences due to her mother and father’s vast book collection. She always felt that reading was an escape, and her parents had everything to help with that escape. Their bookshelves were filled with books ranging from science fiction and horror, to engineering and biochemistry. Martisha lived a rather normal, run-of-the-mill childhood, free from trauma or any hardship, but she always cherished that, and felt that was a blessing. The only time she ever really ran into any trouble was with the occasional bully at school, but due to her mother being psychiatrist Martisha’s feelings were often put to the side, and her mother would go into shrink mode, focusing on “Why the bully was doing it” more so than comforting Martisha. She knew her mother meant well, sort of, but a psychiatric evaluation on the bully was not the type of consoling she needed. She figured that after several “bully” episodes, that comfort and “normal” advice were better left to her sister or father, more so than Freud (that is what she would call mom when she would go into one of her talks). When Martisha hit her early teens, she had grown interested in Starfleet and was determined to enter the Academy and hopefully embark on a fulfilling career, but it wasn’t going to be easy, and she knew that. Though she was well read, the Academy still proved rather difficult and exhausting for her, but she pushed through, majoring in Science and minoring in medical. As far as Martisha’s flaws, she could rattle off a few, but the biggest ones that plagued her were that she was a bit shy, dreaded public speaking, and possessed a fear of traveling in small shuttles/spacecraft (Starships did not seem to bother her whatsoever, go figure). But, even though she appears shy on the surface, once Martisha breaks out of her shell, she is bubbly, energetic, comical, and a bit of a chatterbox.
