Daniel intially found it difficult to adapt to life in Starfleet and was rapidly falling behind in his classes. After a meeting with the Commandant he was ordered to seek council, to see whether this would continue or not. Lt.Cmdr Terri Farquhar requested Daniel to be placed inder her care, to this day it is not clear why. Daniel stayed at a steady pace but was still behind the rest of his classmates.
