Born on Caldos IV (a Scottish clan type colony) Tolan was a bit of a standout. His father was a diplomat with Starfleet's diplomatic core and his mother is a field archaeologist. During his childhood both father and mother were away quite often leaving Tolan to the gentle care of Lidia their neighbor. Tolan grew up and was a well-liked boy, a bit hot-headed every now and then, but he usually kept his head down. As he grew older (as of the age of 12), he traveled along with his parents quite often. With his mother he visited digs on Betazed and Tellar and with his father being posted as a liaison officer on Qo'nos he spent quite some time there as well. Qo'nos was an interesting place and the brawny and hot-headed Trill fitted in surprisingly well. He trained with his friends there and became passable in Mok'bhara and in fighting with the Bat'leth. But Qo'nos was also the place of his biggest tragedy. His father died in what was classified as an accident and Tolan was forced to leave the planet in a big hurry and a big hush. It triggered his resolve to join Starfleet in honor of his father. | |||
Tolan's hot-headedness he turned in to an incredibly stubborn work ethic. He chose to do one of the toughest asks in the academy, he did a double major. Intelligence and security. Luckily both were quite compatible but it was a big ask and his lofty aspirations of becoming first in his class and valedictorian he had to let go quite early on. He managed to finish both majors, scraping through in the end by the skin of his teeth. The one course he did finish first in his class was in martial arts, he had his bulk, his brawn and the nasty tricks he had picked up from the Klingons. | |||
Literally the day after his graduation he had been called back to Trill to enter in to the training and trial program for Symbiont training at the Trill symbiosis commission. The training lasted the better part of two years and in the end Tolan was chosen to receive the Voral symbiont. A very young symbiont and Tolan was only it's second host. | |||
Now he returned to Starfleet at an odd place in his life, two years after his academy friends he was ready to start his career. | |||

Tolan is a friendly young man. He has learned a thing or two from Jenar, Tolans previous host. Jenar was a starfleet officer, a scientist. Jenar's work ethic and drive have filtered through in to the hot-headed young Trill Tolan has always been. Tolan loves physical activity and keeps his muscles well trained. | |||
