Voram was born to the Roehl family in Mak’ala,Trill. They were raised alongside their twin, Motor, and growing up the two were inseparable. They were both eventually drawn to science, but where Motor was dedicated to medicine as a way to help people, Voram was drawn more to academia and chose the path of genetics. While Motor went to medicine school, Voram joined the Trill Science Ministry to become a geneticist.

Eventually, the biggest divide between the two was when Motor decided to apply for joining, and the sibling that Voram thought they knew suddenly became someone else entirely. Motor left Trill, while Voram continued to do research in the Science Ministry. Voram’s mentor there - Tiram Mehn - however, convinced them to apply to Starfleet Academy, arguing that Starfleet could provide more opportunities for a geneticist than an organisation with a focus on spatial and subspace anomalies such as the Ministry could. Reluctantly, at age 26, Voram was accepted into the Academy and studied to become a science officer, with a focus on Genetics, Evolution and Chemistry.
