Margret Jane Harris or MJ Harris found herself pregnant, after a one night stand with a handsome El-Aurian man named Ryden on Risa. Instead of terminating the pregnancy she decided to have the baby naming him Ridian. MJ was an engineering officer and talented pilot in Starfleet, but after Ridian was born she made the decision to retired her commission with Starfleet to raise her son. She found a job as one of the lead engineers maintaining the Risian weather control systems.
 
At an early age, Ridian showed an interest in engineering often tagging along with his mother at weather stations she would visit. As well as she started teaching him to fix and pilot small shuttles and other forms of flight. By the time he was 16 years old, Ridian was an accomplished pilot and could maintain the weather control systems as well as his mother, and was a holo-novelist. She was proud the day he announced he wanted to study Engineering and Helm Navigation at Starfleet Academy.
