Pholin likes to be around people, talking and bonding with them. Most of the time, though, this takes a huge toll on his energy. Often, he is exhausted after a group activity and gets a full eight hours sleep after such things - even though Denobulans only require three. Pholin can get nervous when being the center of attention in crowds, but can usually manage among people he knows. Getting to know people is a thing he doesn't do often but is capable of doing. He usually isn't the one to take initiative, as he is afraid of doing something wrong. Pholin cares a lot about what other people think of him, and now he is in Starfleet, especially what his superiors think of him.  

Not that long ago, he learned that both his mother and brother have [[Pholin Duyzer/Loss|died in a submarine accident]]. Much of the accident is still unknown, but the loss has - naturally - had impact on Pholin's life. He has yet to visit a counselor, since the Columbia currently lacks one. After Pholin had learned of the loss, he tried to ignore his feelings. He had burning headaches, that wouldn't go away for days. The feelings were silently killing him, he learned upon talking to his doctor and friend [[Saden Lor|Saden]]. He eventually opened up to him and [[Jona ch'Ranni|Jona]], since then the headaches have gone away and he had less trouble working. He is afraid, however, that the new responisibilities as Assistant Chief might overwhelm him again.

Pholin starts off his day in the early hours of the morning. Now he shares his quarters with [[Nelis Duyzer|Nelis]], he stays in bed until his husband wakes up. He'll read the news, check up on his messages, and dive into some good books. He likes to drink peppermint tea as he gets out of bed. Next to tea, he likes to drink [[Denobulan Loatac Cider|Loatac Cider]] - non-replicated and with alcohol. Recently, he also discovered [[Andorr-Loatac Ale]] - a drink invented by crew of the {{USS|Gorkon}} and shared to him by his academy friend [[Groznin Smith]]; he is still debating with himself which of the two drinks he likes better. He can eat most foods, but especially likes spicy or salty foods. Like all Denobulans, he doesn't talk while eating; he does like a chat over a drink, however. A mannerism he copied from Nelis, is scratching the back of his head often. He does this when he has no idea how to proceed, or is really uncomfortable.
