| Rino, Kani was born years before Bajor joined the Federation and was the youngest of seven kids. His family moved from their life on Bajor hoping to make a fresh start on Starbase 118 while he was still a kid. On his thirteenth birthday, his parents in an attempt at keeping Bajoran tradition alive gave him his very own personalized earring symbolizing his ‘devotion’ to the Prophets. When he was in his teens he decided that he just didn’t care about the Prophets. When his parents found out, not long before he turned eighteen, they rejected and disowned him. This awkward turn of events led the young Rino to stow away on a ship bound for Earth. Once there, he had nothing but heart of gold and a desire to help others. By some random act of chance and pure luck he did befriend a kind old man, a doctor at a prominent San Francisco hospital. This old man was one of those kind, compassionate, benevolent people who hated seeing talent be squandered and ignored. The old man was a human named Dustin Dryden and he offered to send Kani as far through school as he wanted as long as he worked at the hospital with him while he did it. Kani gleefully accepted the offer and got his Nursing Degree first then proceeded to get both his Ph.D in Psychology and his Medical Degree. His specialties lay in Immunology and Psychiatry/ Mental Health.
