Sensor arrays project above the top deck
The sensor arrays project above the top deck of the station and can be reached by the crew through a number of catwalks, Jeffries tubes, passageways, stairs, ladders and ramps. Due to the nature of this arrangement it is fairly easy to make technological upgrades, perform routine maintenance and gain access to any part of the array. Also to ensure peak performance there are 3 independent communications and sensory towers projection out of the top of the station. This allows for one to be off line and receive maintenance and upgrades without affecting the stations ability to have a backup set of systems always available in case of an emergency.
