Annabella Armstrong comes from a large and supportive family structure. It includes many uncles, aunts, cousins, as well as many friendship clusters. Most of the family members are intensely involved in history and music, primarily Terran history and music.
One particularly important influence has been Her Uncle, Aengus Lemon McGee. While he appreciated history, he is more interested in the present. He was a merchant who brought tales of adventure to his more "stay-at-home" family.

Annabella Louise Armstrong is the second child in a home filled with history, music, laughter, warmth, and a love of learning. Growing up in an undeveloped part of West Texas, she was one of the few who could actually see the Milky Way without any Holographic equipment.
Her high school career was done swiftly and via correspondence courses, graduating at age 16. She credits her nontraditional school setting, combining individualized classwork and theory with practical application. Besides, she was earning an adult income and reputation. Her high school and heard while she worked with Uncle Aengus McGee in the merchant marine service, learning VERY nonstandard maintenance methods, As well as working familiarity with the "colorful metaphors" of many species (none of which seem to serve her well in polite company).
Her time as an engineering technician may have postponed her Starfleet career, but it confirmed her suspicion that she would be quite happy as an engineer, instead of joining the family business of historical REcreation. She earned her Crewman First Class after 3 1/2 years. At the end of her fourth year she was recommended and applied to the Academy.
