*'''Notes:''' [[Richards Debilitation Syndrome]] is a unique condition so far only encountered in the nervous system of Alexander Richards. The virus caused by an attack by some kind of mechanical defense system on Deep Space 10 primarily attacked the patients nervous and cardiovascular systems. Thanks to the swift intervention of the medical staff of the USS Mercury, the patients life was saved however, remnants of the virus attached itself to the patients lower nervous system rendering the patient paralyzed from the waist down. It was hoped that Starfleet medical could operate to remove the virus or amputate the legs however, research and tests showed that any attempt to pierce through the protective membrane the virus has created would result in a 95% probability of the virus being re-released into the patients nervous and cardiovascular systems resulting in a 97% chance of death. Therefor at this time, it is Starfleet Medical's recommendation that no attempt be made to treat the virus or amputate the affected region. It is also the decision that the patient be banned from being placed in any situation where there might be a risk of the virus being released. This means under no circumstances should the patient be part of away teams involving combat or other dangerous situations including but not limited to, hostile environments, bio-hazardous areas and highly volatile environments.
