Tristam met Roshanara in 2387 aboard the {{USS|Pioneer}}. Not much is really known about their relationship prior to the events of 238708.01 (the explosion in the ''Pioneer's'' Main Engineering), other than the fact that the two become good friends, and the possibility that Roshanara may have locked Tristam in his quarters as a joke.
