==History== | |||
They have had a long chaotic history with numerous wars between different political factions or regional groupings. This all ended about 950 years ago when a new political group developed. A dozen of the more powerful families banded together. Through co-operation and a combination of savagery and pure Machiavellian cunning they were able to slowly defeat or absorb their opponents.
It took them almost 200 years but they were able to eventually destroy all their enemies. All those who did not have the motivation to survive and who could not see the writing on the wall, in those cases they surrendered and accepted seats in the newly formed senate.
After this their development as a people progressed at a fairly consistent pace. The few rebellions or civil disturbances were put down so savagely that the population quickly got the point of the lesson and gave up on attempting to change things.
Added to this was the fact that most of the influential families did look after the people under their control. After all happy workers are more productive workers. A lesson that they all quickly learned and those families that did not, could not compete economically and were slowly pushed out of power.
By 2056 they had advanced into space and made contact with another alien species. Shortly after this they fought a short brief war. One that they won by being more aggressive, determined and willing to do whatever it took to win.
In 2333, Jean-Luc Picard identified Guinan's home on Oblivion as being either Pygorian or Mathenite, as both species designed their cargo holds with exposed energy conduits.
In 2368 they dispatched their entire military fleet to search for and eliminate a number of pirate ships that had been attacking freighters along the shipping lanes to and from their home world. It is believed that none of the pirates escaped this action.
In 2370, Quark contacted the Pygorians and arranged for them to sell technology and weapons to the Maquis. This included deflector shields, navigational arrays, photon torpedoes, pulse cannons, energy disrupters and other weapons.
During the Dominion War they remained neutral until a small attack fleet of Cardassian and Breen vessels attacked their homeworld. This fleet was decimated, losing all but 3 Cardassian vessels which managed to flee the system.
After this they provided any and all logistical support possible to the Federation and their allies. This included allowing damaged ships to dock at their repair facilities.
Following the end of the war they returned to their neutral, independent status although they did add a number of new long term trade deals with various Federation member worlds that had previously not been conducting business with them. This included Bajor.
==Government== | |||
They have a strong central government, one that has a lot of power and control over the planet and the population. Each member of the senate represents 50 million of their people. This gives them a current senate body of 245 members. Each of these senators is elected for life and they all come from the most influential families on the planet.
When a senator dies, his replacement is selected and voted on by the complete membership of the senate. The people have no say in this process. There are no females in the senate.
==Description== | |||
They are humanoid in appearance but with very short hair, a flat featureless face except for a mouth and 5 eyes. On each side of their head is a single nostril just below their ear.
==Physiology== | |||
As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. Their sense of smell is considerably less than that of most other species. About 40% to 50% less developed yet their vision is much greater.
The bottom two set of eyes can see much farther than normal and still be able to pick out an astounding amount of detail. Approximately about 4 times that of humans. The next set of two eyes above that have developed to handle close up work. They can see incredibly small details with ease. The last eye can see in darkness and requires only a minimal amount of light to do so.
==Psychology== | |||
They have a fairly stable mental attitude and can adjust to stressful conditions fairly well. The majority of the population are prone to toeing the line and do not show a lot of resourceful or imaginative thinking. This is the opposite of the ruling families who can be very flexible in their though processes.
==Religion== | |||
Over time each of the major influential families has elevated certain members of their ancestors to a position of such importance that they could almost be considered to be semi-godlike. While they are not worshiped like gods they are revered and looked up to because of their achievements while alive.
==Mythology== | |||
They have an extremely well documented history. One that contains records going back over 3,000 years. While not a true mythology in any sense of the word the earlier records are written in such a fashion that they could be interpreted in a number of different ways.
==Society== | |||
They have a very ordered society with very little crime. That may be partially due to the extremely harsh punishments handed out for even the most minor of infractions. However on the plus side their cities are clean, they have adequate medical and educational facilities for all of their population and no one is allowed to go hungry.
==Culture== | |||
They appreciate many different forms of artistic expression and their cities are designed with plenty of public parks, all of them with numerous statues, monuments and picturesque fountains and waterfalls.
Most homes boast large wall murals and many businesses and public buildings are also decorated with huge murals of incredible detail.
Music is normally instrumental but exposure to alien cultures has resulted in the slow adjustment to the use of vocal accompaniment.
==Customs== | |||
The oldest male in every family is considered to be the head of that family. They are responsible for the actions and conduct of every member of their family. In many cases both the head of the family and the member of the family charged with a crime will be arrested. In extreme cases both will suffer the same punishment but in all cases the head of the family will receive some form of punishment.
==Technology== | |||
While not as advanced as most Federation member worlds they are considered to be a fairly competitive species when it comes to technology. This has allowed them to maintain both a competitive economical position and a strong defensive capability.
==Economy== | |||
They have established a fairly strong trade network and have a reputation for being both fair and trustworthy. They have also established a very strong reputation for settling any grievances and getting even with anyone stupid enough to try and take advantage of them.
==Military== | |||
They have a fairly small military but a very strong defensive system in place to protect their homeworld. It is very extensive and has taken them over 100 years to establish. They are constantly upgrading it and adding to it.
As for their fleet of military ships, while it numbers less than 50 vessels they can and have dispatched the entire fleet to deal with certain issues when they have felt it to be necessary. The last time they did so was in 2368 when they were dispatched to hunt down and destroy a number of pirate ships preying on their shipping lanes.
They also have a surprisingly large infantry force that acts both as a sort of military police and is responsible for the operation of all planetary defensive systems. Added to that is the large and often better trained and equipped private security forces maintained by each and every influential family on the planet.

When he was a boy living on Earth, Kieran Duffy would shine a portable beacon into space, hoping it would attract a curious Pygorian trader. He eventually became an officer on the USS Excalibur.
