Kevin dislikes smalltalk and finds it difficult to understand why people would be interested in such things as the weather or the current status of sports teams.  As a result, he often drifts into his own thoughts when people talk about anything not related to engineering or science.  Of late, however, Kevin has learned to become more interested in other people's small talk as a kind of mechanism to open one's self up to the development of interpersonal relations.
