Leo Beaufytor is the product of a brief extra-marital encounter between a [[Pythron]] woman, Thera Datchet-Beaufytor (wife of a member of the Pythron military elite), and a gifted Byzallian technocrat, Mons Vor, that took place during a peace conference that was intended to unite the two planets after generations of hostility.  For the first five years of his life, Leo was raised in happiness and comfort, as his mother's husband never questioned his legitimacy.

But when his biological father found out about his existence, Leo was kidnapped from Pythro and taken to his father's compound on Byzatium where he was renamed Graven.  His father truly believed that the boy would forget his mother, but Graven never did.  Once he was old enough, he began his training in everything from intergalactic politics to sword-fighting.  It was his father's hope that one day Graven would take over his empire, and then the Byzallian government, which would have given him the power to conquer Pythro.
