History

None recorded.

An inhabited humanoid performing a bio-electric attack.

Description

Non-humanoid aliens who are thought to inhabit quantum singularities, although this is speculation drawn from their reproductive habits. Very little data has been recorded that would indicate a description of the likely physical appearance of an adult; however, the aliens are able to take control of a humanoid host in order to interact with other humanoid life-forms. This process is fatal to the host.

Physiology

It is impossible to tell whether or not a humanoid host has been possessed by a quantum singularity life-form by sight alone. A detailed medical scan will reveal a partially altered body chemistry, and the presence of unusual cells within the host. When occupying a humanoid, the life-forms have the ability to emit a biochemical discharge capable of sending a human into neural shock. This process, however, results in the degradation of their own cells, proving fatal within a few minutes of administration, and is therefore used only as a final defensive resort.

Reproduction

The process by which these aliens reproduce is unknown. However, their habits post-birth indicate that their young must nest within a quantum singularity, referred to by the aliens themselves as a "gravity well", in order to survive. The singularity must be naturally occurring; an attempt to raise their young in the artificially created singularity at the heart of a Romulan Warbird was met with failure. Furthermore, the attempt to repair the Warbird's engine core via power transfer from the USS Enterprise resulted in fragmentation of the space/time continuum with disastrous results: a feedback-pulse induced warp core breach.

Attempts to scan the infant life-forms within their artificial nest resulted in an increase in the speed of passage of time. It was theorised, and later proven by Lieutenant Commander Data, that the delta-band emissions of his tricorder were the cause of this phenomenon. Indeed, he was able to reverse the passage of time by using carefully modified delta-band emissions.

Psychology

Little is known of the aliens' psychological characteristics. The only two such entities encountered by Starfleet were defensive of their young to the point of open hostility. However, after attacking Lieutenant Commander Geordi LaForge and sending him into neural shock, one of the life-forms communicated with other members of the USS Enterprise's bridge crew, explaining the cause of the temporal fragmentation that they were experiencing, and suggesting a solution.
