Personal History
D’Nal Merek was born to Giellun and Sindari Merek on Stardate 235204.15 on Romulus. D’Nal had a normal Romulan childhood and had no siblings.
In 2381, D’Nal married Ecural, and two years later, their daughter, Sienae, was born. D’Nal cares greatly for his daughter and is very protective of her.
The destruction of Romulus weighed heavily on D’Nal, and most of his family went missing at that time. He learned of his father’s murder at the hands of [Nero] who killed Romulan Senate members, shortly after the destruction of Romulus.
Professional History
Choosing a different path than that of his father, D’Nal entered the [Romulan military] and served until he was recruited by the [Tal Shiar]. His career became one of duplicity as his roles in the Tal Shiar and the Romulan military often conflicted, but his loyalty remained with the Tal Shiar. This fact created conflict with his father at times, but over the years, they found that they were able to help each other in their careers. Creating a unique relationship between the father and son was presented to be one of animosity in public but familial in private. Each was able to rise to power within their chosen professions.
During his service in the Romulan military, D’Nal served in the Romulan Third Fleet under the command of [Donatra]. The two developed a romantic relationship over time, and D’Nal maintained a compartmentalized life for his relationship with Donatra and his relationship with his wife and daughter. At the loss of Donatra and his wife and daughter when the Hobus star exploded, D’Nal struggled to cope afterward. He placed his focus on renewing the military strength of the [Romulan Empire] as the Romulan people tried to establish some form of government while the military maintained control under Martial Law.
Just days before the destruction of Romulus, D’Nal was scheduled to be named head of the Tal Shiar before the Romulan Senate and the Praetor. That appointment never occurred, but D’Nal is convinced that the Tal Shiar must be re-established with control over the military to pave the way for the future of all Romulans.
The Romulan military, in the wake of the loss of the Romulan homeworld, was weakened, but D’Nal’s reputation afforded him the command of Donatra’s Third Fleet, after her disappearance. The Romulan Admiral currently in charge of the Romulan military saw the influence that D’Nal possessed, and the Admiral aligned with D’Nal assigning D’Nal the Third Fleet.
