Born on Earth. Accompanied missionary parents off Earth to farm colony (age 7) and then (at 9) to a relatively lawless remote trading center, where his parents remain. Finished high school at 14, left home shortly thereafter, but didn't enter Starfleet Academy until nearly 23 years old.
