Karynn is touch-empathic, and therefore tends to not make physical contact with other people before notifying them of this status.  She sees doing so as being an invasion of their privacy.  While she has taught herself to shake hands when meeting someone new, and in the past has done so, more recently she often simply nods her head in greeting (or see note below).  When she does shake hands, she generally attempts to block out the other person's emotions for this brief period of time.  Her sense is strongest with skin-to-skin contact and is dulled as more layers of fabric or other material are in between contact.  Her empathic/telepathic abilities are modified through the use of the [http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Canar canar].

** Of note, she has a pair of leather gloves her husband [[Brice, Ethan|Ethan Brice]] gave her for their third anniversary that she frequently wears to dampen the effects of her touch empathy when shaking hands.
