Jerak Gorvel was born to Karn and Torri Gorvel on 236405.27. Once he had finished his primary and secondary schooling his parents encouraged him to seek further education in a field like engineering owing to the fact that both Karn and Torri worked in engineering fields. While quite bright academically speaking, Jerak had long since decided to not pursue becoming a host to a Symbiont and instead enrolled in Star Fleet Academy in the Operations track. Not long after he successfully gained entry to the Academy did he decide to change his mind and make engineering his specialty.
After graduating the Academy five years later, Jerak was posted to the USS Flint which was a Nebula class starship. In addition to his engineering duties he had the opportunity to work with some of the senior engineers on engineering research projects. While field testing one such project on behalf of the Star Fleet R&D division, the USS Flint was catastrophically damaged. Despite working valiantly with the available engineers, Jerak and his colleagues were unable to remedy the situation and advised the Captain that evacuation was the only course of action.
After narrowly managing to make it to an escape pod Jerak then spent the better part of a week alone in the pod awaiting rescue. When rescue did arrive and the subsequent reassignment after the destruction of the USS Flint, Jerak was approached by the SCE to become part of one of their research teams. It was cited that not only was Jerak an exceptional engineer for his age and experience but also had quite the mind for R&D having made several important contributions already on previous projects.
Although hesitant at first and still coming to grips with what just had happened, Jerak accepted and traveled to Starbase 11. Once there he took part in the SCE's Quantum Slipstream Drive project. Spending the last year on the project and seeing it into general deployment has made Jerak an expert in the technology and so he has now been assigned to the Gemini to observe it in the field. Although he never really took to his SCE colleagues rather outgoing social preferences. He remains dedicated to the SCE and its mission of better Star Fleet.
