Jack loves time with his dogs, especially camping and hiking with them. Other interests for Jack include swimming, two-vs-two beach volley ball and holographic technology which has lead to the development of Logan and MK9. Logan is a fully integrated holographic Golden Retriever from Earth. Using a mobile emitter Logan is capable of going anywhere with Jack on or off the ship. In 2399 following an incident on the holodeck Nesre Salo adopted one of the rescued Tervuren puppies from Bora Bora, Earth and brought it aboard the USS 'Oumuamua for Jack as a gift. The puppy Nesre named Lilou has quickly become a great joy in Jack's life.

; [[V'Len Kel]]: V'Len served aboard the USS Thor and USS 'Oumuamua with Jack. Jack's first shore leave aboard the USS Thor joined him up with V'Len and several others for a trip to Bajor. Jack also enjoys V'Len's Holo-mysteries in which they act of Detectives in Earth's early 20th century. Jack has found these mysteries to be not only fun but challenging.

; [[Nesre Salo]]: Jack fisrt met Nesre Salo aboard the USS Thor and along with V'Len Kel and Commodore Aaron Kells spent several days on Bajor with Nesre during shore leave. Jack enjoyed his time with Nesre and when their second shore leave came around she was one of the first people he asked to go to Bora Bora, Earth with him. The shore leave proved to be fun and even led to the rescue of a mother dog on the islands peak of Otemanu. Nesre shares a similar love for animals as Jack and something that he believes has brought them closer as friends.

A few months later Nesre surprised Jack aboard ship with Lilou, one of the Tervuren puppies they had rescued from atop Bora Bora. This was a huge risk for Nesre that ended up meaning more to Jack than she could ever know.

Shortly after his promotion and a brief shore leave the USS 'Oumuamua departed for another assignment in the Gamma Quadrant. Assigned to the diplomatic team, Commodore V'Airu left Major Wes Greaves in command of the 'Oumuamua. During this window the 'Oumuamua encountered an alien vessel made entirely of organic material and inhabited by living plants and trees called the Eesse. Jack found himself assigned to his first away mission since joining the ship and discovered that not all situations call for a Tactical officer but instead call for a balanced officer to help solve a problem. During this assignment he was also exposed to his first 'First Contact' scenario when his away team encountered another species called the Suclese who were hiding via a phase shifting ability and feeding on the life blood of the Eesse. This 'First Contact' had many different elements of difficulty, most of which was communications based. Although tension was high at times during the 'First Contact' negotiations with the Suclese, Jack found this a fantastic learning experience. Later in the mission he joined Lieutenant Corelli and Lieutenant jg Ulasso on another away mission, this time to explore an uncharted world that the Eesse seemed to be destined or drawn to by what they called the "Great Light". Here Jack found himself and his crew members is a second 'First Contact' situation. This time with a Eesse who served as a lone beacon on this planet, staged here thousands of years before to serve as a guide across the stars to the rest of the Eesse civilization. Jack found both of these 'First Contact' situations to be entirely different and although prepared for 'First Contact', he felt that now having actually been through it, he was better prepared for what lay ahead.

On stardate 239910.20, for his involvement in helping to translate the Suclese language in the midst of a fraught situation and discovering the planet at the end of the Eesse’s journey, respectively Jack was awarded the Explorer's Ribbon, First Contact Ribbon, Peacekeeper Service Ribbon and Innovation Ribbon by his command team. At the same time he was elevated up to the Assistant Chief Tactical Officers position by his direct department head, Major Greaves.
