Ben is a very friendly boy, taking after his mother in personality. Full of courage, he faces everything with fearless fierceness. Ben is a full empath, but he didn't inherit the sensitivity of his mother's T4 telepathy. He is a level 3 telepath, able to hear people's thoughts when he touches them. He does have a four-lobed brain and is therefore immune to other telepaths, including other Rodulans.
Ben is an active and stubborn child. Though he can be a voracious learner when he is interested, he can be a terror to teach when he isn't interested. He is quite messy and has a tendency to get into things he should not.
Benjiro was born on Stardate 238706.11 to Talia Kaji and Maeda Kyo. His name was chosen very carefully. His parents decided he should have his mother's last name as his own surname, and his father's as a middle name. His dad, Kyo, chose an old Japanese first name for him. Benjiro means "enjoy peace."
He has been moved around a lot over his short life. His first years were spent at the Starfleet Affiliated Campus on Aldebaran, where Talia was studying. When he was three, she graduated and they moved to the Duronis II Embassy. Less than a year after that, his mother was transferred to the USS Victory and he went to live there with her. Soon after the move, Talia and Kyo ended their relationship, and Talia got full custody over Ben. He visits his father a few times a year and has frequent holonet meetings with him.
Emotionally, Ben's life has been turbulent. His ability to feel the emotions of the people around him has been both a blessing and a curse. His parents breakup was extremely difficult for him. He isn't able to sense his mother's emotions because of her four-lobed brain, and his separation from his father helped keep the emotional damage minimal. It did spark a few months of abnormal angst in the little boy, though.
