History
In 2366, they attended the Trade Agreements Conference on Betazed. TNG: Ménage à Troi In 2367, they had a seat on the Federation Archaeology Council and attended the symposium on the USS Enterprise-D. TNG: Qpid.[1]
A native plays the culture's famed ceremonial rhythms for the reception ending the biannual trade conference at Betazed. Another native is among the delegates to the Federation Archaeology Council's annual symposium at Tagus III.[1]
Government
They have a representative senate that is elected from among the population with 1 representative for every million people. Currently this senate has 7,032 members. While the size is one of the largest of any planetary government within the Federation it is also one of the smoothest running with very few delays or hang-ups involved with passing a new law or making a new policy decision.
Description
A humanoid race which is distinguished physically by golden leathery skin with numerous small circular openings about the head, especially on their wide-set nostrils and atop their fluted head ridge similar to Klingons and Bolians. Some Algolians have more muted head ridges, as seen among those on the Bajoran Space Station and Deep Space Nine, on stardates 46423.7 and 46844.3.
Physiology
They have a completely different internal set up as compared with the majority of humanoid species. One aspect of this can be seen in the slow, careful way they do everything. It is an offshoot of their slower metabolism and general overall physical makeup.
Some have made the mistake and thought that because they move and respond more slowly than other species that they are less intelligent. This is incorrect. There physical and hormonal makeup has resulted in their bodies responding at a slightly slower speed than those of other races. They have turned this into an advantage.
As a result they always move in a stately, almost regal manner.
Psychology
They tend to have fewer mental problems than most intelligent humanoid species. However on the extremely rare occasion when one of them does go over the edge it is usually in a very big way.
Religion
They have a great love of nature. In fact any living space that they have will always have some plants and flowers in it. This love of nature and need to look after plants is the closest they come to haveing a religion.
Mythology
They have a very unique and large library of historical data that contains a number of mythical creatures and valiant heroes.
Society
They have an almost utopian society with well modulated health care, social services, education available to all and assistance of all kinds available to all. There communities are well laid out with an eye towards not just function but beauty. Almost every living space has it's own large balcony with plants, flowers and water fountain or water fall.
Culture
They enjoy all forms of art and music. It is not uncommon for any citizen to spend a little time each day enjoying if not practising one art form or another. They have adopted many forms from other civilizations and cultures. One that has swept the planet is the art of growing Bonzai trees.
Customs
They have few customs but one that has survived is the Departure. When ever one of them die his family and friends gather and exchange stories and memories. In the old days this was followed by a cremation but now days the body is taken into space and allowed to drift into the closest star.
Technology
They are on a par with many of the more scientifically inclined Federation member worlds. They have a large number of excellent research facilities and have been given credit for a few of the innovations now in use on the Sovereign Class Starship.
Economy
Extremely well developed trade system and they have a branch of the Federation Inter-Galactic Stock Exchange and Trade. In fact it is the 2nd largest facility of its kind within the borders of the Federation.
Military
They have no military and never did. They do have a Federation space station and dry docks in orbit. This facility is used to repair any size ship smaller than a heavy cruiser.
