Akeelah D'Sena is the First Officer on the [[USS Apollo-A]]. She is Rodulan from the Idanii racial group. She appears rather distant and sometimes even arrogant unless she is with other Rodulans.

She appears rather distant and sometimes even arrogant unless she is with other Rodulans. Due to an incident during an away mission in November 2393, she has lost control of her legs and depends on a wheelchair to get around.

Akeelah was born on Rodul, as first (and unplanned) daughter of Drosa and Kelar D'Sena, a Scientist and an Artist during the Occupation of Rodul by Klingon Forces,  in the war between the Klingon Empire and the Cardassian Union. During that time her parents did not work in their jobs but did everything to keep their small family safe.

It did not take much time after the latest promotion that, during land shore, she had been recalled and transferred as Mission Specialist on the USS Apollo-A under Rear Admiral Andrus Jaxx.

Though when time came for a Command, she realized that she missed working in Security and stepped back from Leadership. Under Captain Jalana Rajel she moved with the whole Apollo Crew to the USS Constitution and worked in the Security Department.
 
End of 2395 she was member of a rescue team on Dagorin IV, when part of their away team had been kidnapped by the Orion Syndicate. A hand-to-hand combat with Lazlo, one of the Syndicate members, injured her spine badly, and she ended up in a hoverchair, not able to use her legs. Recovery time was estimated between hours and months.

During the stay of the Apollo at SB118, the crew participated in the Festival of Diversity in their own way: With a team exercise Scavenger Hunt. The teams had to fulfill tasks that ranged from drink testing, instrument playing to a special exercise, leading the teams to a space circus, which had been brought in for the Festival. Akeelah's team was the first to face this task. After they had changed into their sparkling circus attire, the crew was recalled to the Apollo, because of an incoming ion storm. Without time to redress, they returned to the ship, and Akeelah to the bridge, much to the amusement of the bridge crew.
