Backstory/Timeline
Belinda was born at Noctys Labyrinthus, Mars Colony, the youngest of three children to starfleet officers Eric and Anna Desdemona. She had a pretty normal childhood until she was 10.
During a routine science mission close to the neutral zone the USS Orion, a ship her parents were assigned to, was attacked by a Romulan bird of pray. The Orion was too damaged and an evacuation was ordered. Since she was in one of the ships shelters Belinda and the other civilians quickly got to the escape pods, her parents weren't as quick.
From the escape pod she saw the Orion explode knowing that her parents were still onboard, a sight that traumatized her.
After the loss of her parents Belinda was sent to live with her sister and brother on Earth where her brother studied at the academy. Together they decided to all live on earth so that their brother Michael could continue his studies, while being close to each other. Another reason was that Belinda had developed a fear of space travel. She began seeing a psychologist.
At 14 she was herself again on the surface, she was social and had also begun taking an interest in boys, she appeared to be like most girls her age. She was however still seeing a psychologist because of some fears she was still carrying inside.
Around this time she also found an interest in cooking. This newfound interest made her begin to question if she really wanted to join starfleet like everyone else in her family. Up until that time it had felt natural to think of a future as a starfleet officer, but now that future began to feel more like a predetermined choice and not her own choice.
Two years later Belinda had more or less gotten through most of the trauma of seeing her parents death. Michael, her brother, had graduated from the academy and had left earth and Belinda was living with her sister, Andrea. By now both Belinda and Andrea were missing living in space, so after they talked it through Andrea requested a transfer to a starship and received a position on the USS Drake.
This was a big step for Belinda and even though it was scary at first, being back in space again helped her to develop a lot emotionally. Up until that point she had carried a lot of fear, on the Drake she was able to face that fear, and eventually conquer it.
A year after they came aboard the Drake was badly damaged during a mission. Since both sisters became bored waiting for the ship to be repaired they decided that it was time to move to another ship, this time it became the USS Ark Royal.
