Background/Career History

Faye was born on El-Auria before it was assimilated by the Borg, to a wealthy family - the youngest of her sibling cluster of ten. She was close only with her older brothers that were closest to her in age, and often got lost in the chaos of her family. Her father was strict and distant in the way people who wish to uphold appearances are, but the children did quite a lot of things behind his back. Ultimately Faye stole one of her family’s personal spacecraft and ran away with it, determined to wander the stars, which she did for the next several hundred years before ending up in the Alpha Quadrant near Earth.

She discovered Earth and humans in the mid-20th century just as they were making their first attempts at space flight. This of course is an exciting time in any species development and she spent decades living among them undercover. This is when she began to use the name Faye Lowell as her El-Aurian name was odd and difficult to pronounce.

In the 1980’s during one of her ship maintenance stays at a “nearby” deep space station, she ran into one of her brother’s friends. He said he was sent by her family to find her, and despite her refusal to return to El-Auria with him they rekindled the affair they had as teenagers. He eventually left to continue his mission, and Faye stayed and gave birth to their son, Gavin. She returned to Earth to raise him, but due to instability and war on the planet, and the realization that Earth was a technological backwater that could not provide the education he needed as a member of a warp-capable species, she moved them both to a deep space station that could.

However humanity is Faye’s favorite species, so she kept an eye on them as they eventually attained warp and were contacted by the Vulcans. In those early years she served for a time as a cultural liaison to the Vulcans to explain humans to them due to her experience living among them. This eventually became no longer necessary.

In 2161 the United Federation of Planets formed and after about a decade of closely watching it to make sure it didn’t fall apart, she decided to join Starfleet. She started off in what was then Engineering but today would be Operations, specializing in ship’s computer systems, though she often got stuck on communications due being a polyglot out of necessity, before moving into Command.

In the 2180’s she was given command of the USS Hestia, a Columbia-class starship. In the early 2200’s she was promoted to admiral and quickly realized that a position that high in Starfleet was too influential for an extremely long lived species, so she retired from active duty. However she carefully maintains relationships within Starfleet Command, and spends a lot of her time hitching rides or living on Starfleet vessels. Usually she doesn’t let anyone know she was once an admiral, or even non-human (force of habit), but she is sometimes recognized by a friend and outed. She occasionally still gets brought out of retirement if Starfleet has a particular need.

She also maintains a number of large storage facilities around the quadrant to hold all the “artifacts” she’s accumulated, and numerous safehouses. She has lived through and fought in enough wars to know that it is best to be prepared. Centuries of life have allowed her to accumulate massive wealth even though the Federation is mostly a post-scarcity society now.
