History
In violation of the Prime Directive, an undercover Federation cultural specialist altered the Ekosian culture in 2268 to mimic the 1930's Terran culture of Nazi Germany. Dr. John Gill hoped to replicate the efficiency and order of the Nazi regime but without the hate and cruelty.
The attempt failed when Melakon managed to take control from him while he was ill. Melakon had read all the documents that Dr. Gill had available regarding the Nazi's, not just the ones he had used to create his great experiment. As a result he was able to twist the vision to meet what he felt was a truer, more faithful version of Nazi culture. Only further Federation intervention stopped this potential mass murder.
The USS Enterprise, assigned to discover what had happened to John Gill, arrived just before the launch of the invasion against Zeon. The intervention of Kirk, Spock and McCoy roused Gill in time to call-off the attack, and Gill recanted his beliefs to Kirk as he died, insisting that the Prime Directive was "the only way".
The regime created by Gill and Melakon proved to be weaker than their German model. The Nazi government and the "Final Decision" was not embraced by all of Ekos. An underground alliance of Zeons and Ekosians had formed, including high-level Nazi party members who wanted no part in the genocide. Kirk's actions allowed the Zeon Isak to kill Deputy Führer Melakon. Afterwards, there appeared to be no impediment to the worlds working together. Spock observed that the union of the two cultures would make a fine addition to the Federation.
However while both planets have continued to develop peacefully many of the Zeons have returned to their own world. While they are still on peaceful terms with the Zeons, the fact that the Ekosians have so heartily adopted the Nazi movement and continued to develop a strong government controled society has prevented them from becomeing allies.
Government
They have a strange form of military dictatorship for a government with the leader called the Führer. The leader is elected for life and as long as he does a good job, has nothing to fear. So far 7 have been assassinated in order to be replaced by more competent leaders.
Description
They are rigid conformists who seem to thrive in the oppressive and demanding society they have created. Physically they are almost indistinguishable from Nordic and European archatypes on the planet Earth.
Physiology
Other than a few minior chemical and hormonial differances, their physiology is fairly close to that of the Zeon. Both species have many similarities with Terrans.
Psychology
On the whole, they tend to be fairly stable mentally, as a race however, they also seem to be genetically predisposed to be aggressive and controlling.
Religion
The changes that started with the creation of the Nazi regime have swept away much of their identity from before the change. Now the only quasi-religion is Nazism.
Mythology
Not much has survived from before the sweeping alterations to their society that resulted in the creation of the Nazi regime. However both John Gill and Melakon have gained almost a legendary hero worship among certain factions.
Society
All of their society has been affected by the Nazi dream. Strong forces of military police maintain constant peace and control. Curfews, propaganda and other methods are used to keep the population under control and happy.
Culture
They enjoy large rallies where huge numbers of people gather to listen to speaches, watch the troops parade and enjoy government sponsored feasts.
Customs
No true customs have survived the recreation of their society. Any new customs seem bound up in the beliefs encouraged by the Nazi party.
Technology
While they strive to increase their technological knowledge, they still put most of their effort into gaining, studying anything that might have a military usage.
Economy
They have a very well developed internal as well as external trade system. As a result they export and import a wide variety of items. The only species they reserve the right to control what they trade to them are the Zeon.
Military
Even after the incident that resulted in the truth being learned about the motives behind the war effort against the Zeon, it became clear the people still leaned towards Nazism. As a result almost a quarter of their population is involved with the military. While they have not been active in any wars they are prepared.
This military force has until now been used to perform huge construction feats like emptying the capitol city, leveling it and rebuilding a new, huge city with large stone carvings, wide streets and all the most modern infrastructure available.
