Class 1 Priority Alert

Starfleet Intelligence has designated this species a

Class 1 Priority

"You struggle against the inevitable. You thrive on conflict. You are rash, quick to judge, slow to change. It's amazing you've survived. As a species, we have no common ground. You are too aggressive. Too hostile. Too militant."
an observation by Nagilum to Captain Picard.
It is unknown if Nagilum is a single entity or a member of entire species of omnipotent beings. What is known is that he lives in a pocket void outside of normal space and has abilities that mark him as a something completely different from anything encountered before.

Home System

  • Quadrant: Beta
  • Location: Morgana Sector (coordinates B25-0004-1294)
  • Proper Name: Cornelian system
  • Star: It orbits a class O (Violet/White) star
  • Companions: There are 8 planets in the system

The Void

Nagilum exists outside of normal space, through a rift in that space in an area devoid of anything and everything. It was named the “Void” by the crew of the USS Enterprise based on this absence of all things.

History

According to Federation experts there has only ever been one known recorded contact between the entity known as Nagilum and intelligent beings. They were the crew of the Federation starship USS Enterprise.

In 2365 the USS Enterprise was exploring the Cornelian system in the Morgana Sector when they encountered a hole in space, one that was utterly devoid of all matter and energy. Inside they discovered the presence of a very powerful, extra-dimensional, space-faring, and malevolently curious alien life form who called itself Nagilum. Somehow Nagilum was able to sunder the fabric of space and create the rift that allowed the USS Enterprise to enter the Void.

While in the Void the being called Nagilum experimented with the crew. This included causing the death of Ensign Haskell, who died horribly and painfully on the floor of the bridge. Further intrigued Nagilum decided to study this aspect of humanity on numerous levels, proposing to kill off a large portion, from one third to one half, of the ship's crew.

Nagilum finally let the ship go after Captain Picard threatened to kill his entire crew, via the auto-destruct system, rather than to subject half of his crew to an experiment. In a final conversation with Picard, Nagilum revealed that he had learned everything that he needed and admitted that while quite different, he agreed with Picard that he/it perhaps shared the trait of curiosity with Humanity.

So far no further know or recorded contact has been established with the being known as Nagilum or the other dimensional Void in which it was encountered.

Government

Due to the limited nature of the only recorded and known contact between the being that calls itself Nagilum and any intelligent species which in this case was the Federation crew of the Starfleet vessel, the USS Enterprise-D nothing is known about this aspect of the being known as Nagilum.

Description

All that was ever seen of Nagilum was its face, so massive in size that the USS Enterprise could have easily fit inside its mouth with room left over for a couple dozen more ships. In appearance it almost seemed like Nagilum was pressing its face up against the side of the void in which the USS Enterprise was trapped. This warped the appearance of the face which was humanoid with large eyes and bluish complexion.
