History

In the 24th century, Xepolite free traders often worked as intermediaries for the Cardassians, and many of the arrangements they were involved in were illegal.

In 2328, Hetman Foroe smuggled two Starfleet officers disguised as Bajorans onto Bajor and then tried to smuggle a group of Bajorans off the planet, but was caught by the Cardassians.

A few of them were involved in the smuggling of weapons to Cardassian colonists in the Demilitarized Zone. Unlike the Lissepians however, they had never been discovered until 2370, when Commander Sisko and Gul Dukat encountered a Xepolite freighter, commanded by Hetman Drofo Awa.

Government

They have a unique style of government with a large executive council made up of all established Hetmen. A Hetman is a wealthy individual who owns property on the home world and at least one merchant ship. They advise and vote on issues as presented by other members of the council. The number of votes each Hetman has is determined by the amount of property, ships and credits they have.

It is not unheard of for brawls to break out during these council sessions.

Description

A humanoid race with an almost amphibious resemblance they have a dark grayish green skin and black hair but no facial hair of any kind.

Physiology

As a result of the humid, moist air that they are accustomed to on their native world they need to either apply moistening agents to their skin at regular intervals or adjust the life support systems to perform the same function.

Psychology

They tend to be slightly arrogant in a superior manner.

Religion

A small fringe element among them still cling to ancient beliefs. These individuals never leave the planet and tend to live in small remote communes far from the rest of civilization.

Mythology

None. However they do have a series of stories about ancient people. For the most part only the religious fringe element still read these stories.

Society

They have a very cut throat society. Almost anything is acceptable if it gets you ahead. In fact the more daring and dangerous the plot the more honor it generates. If it fails then your tend to be thrown to the wolves and become fair game to anyone seeking to advance.

Culture

Money is the driving force behind almost everything they do. They have no real use or appreciation for art, music or any other activity unless it can be used as a means to show their financial success. Then it is flaunted and shown off in order to prove their success at the more important matter of accumulating more credits.

Customs

A young man is expected to barter his first deal in order to be considered an adult. The more advantageous this deal is for the young man the better his prospects of landing a better job. If it is a failure then he can expect nothing better than some demeaning job with no future and little hope of advancement

Technology

Slightly behind the Federation with less emphasis on certain medical or safety technologies as these are not considered profitable.

Economy

They have a vast and well developed trade system with many species, groups and alliances. One of these was with the Cardassians. They have little regard for the laws and trade policies of others. Especially as they are more than willing to act as third party transporters for any cargo that they can make a profit on.

Military

They have been able to maintain a neutral standing with all other species so far. As a result they do not maintain a military but they do have a small effective police force that has a small number of frigate class vessels. This is primarily used to maintain peace among the various free traders as well as to impose fines, taxes and when necessary impounding of merchant vessels.
