Regional Information

The Borderlands is a large swath of Federation space along the Klingon border. Only a limited amount of information is known, other than rumors of stellar phenomenon that have been said to wreak havoc on ships in the area. More than one ship has gone missing in the region and run ins along the furthest edges of the border with the neutral zone are not unheard of. Many merchants and travelers avoid the region if possible, because of established local legends of space faring monsters and unnatural phenomenon. It contains a variety of species ranging from pre-warp, early post warp, and comparable to Federation technology levels civilizations. In early 2391, Starfleet lost contact with the USS Hermes, which was patrolling the area, and the USS Gemini was dispatched to investigate. In 2397, Starfleet permanently assigned the science vessel USS Resolution to the area for long-term study.

Factions and Spatial Anomalies

The Borderlands consists of many different areas distinct from each other and interstellar phenomenon. Such areas are known as the Briar Patch, Celendi Nebula, and Azure Nebula respectively. There is only one recognized Trade route through the region that runs through the edge of the Celendi Nebula utilized by merchants and freighters to and from the Klingon Empire and Federation space. Two main species other than the Klingons and Da'al exist in the area seeking out whatever homes they can find, the Son'a and exiled Suliban. The Klingon empire is currently in conflict with the Federation over claims of territory just over the far side of the border. The Federation region known as the Borderlands is home to Deep Space 224, a Star Fleet run space station used to maintain presence in the region and host a contingent of the Vulcan Science Academy.
