Personal Details

  • Height: 5'6"
  • Weight: 110 Pounds
  • Hair: Black (Short in an Asymmetrical Cut)
  • Eyes: Black
  • Build: Slender
  • Telepathy Rating: T5

Avarin is slender and moves with a sort of economical grace that speaks of early training in the Vulcan martial arts. Her hair is black, straight, and cut in an asymmetrical haircut (right side extends to below the jaw while the left side is shorter and tucked behind her ear). Her black eyes have an epicanthic fold and seem to dominate her face. Her hands are slender and well-formed though slightly cool to the touch since her Vulcan physiology finds the temperature aboard Federation vessels and on Federation stations to be somewhat chill. When off-duty, Avarin favors the Vulcan mode of dress. She wears monochromatic, long-sleeved tops and pants paired with long-sleeved robes that fall to mid-thigh. The robes tend to show an artistic flair in their design and subtle shading. The sleeves of her tops are often fitted to cover part of the hand, thus providing a bit of additional warmth without restricting or inhibiting movement.

Interests

  • Sha'Mura, a demanding Vulcan marital art that Avarin practices for its mental and physical discipline.
  • Suus Mahna, an ancient Vulcan martial art that Avarin has learned strictly for defense
  • Vulcan Lute, a twelve-stringed instrument, whose origins are lost in Vulcan antiquity, that she has been studying since her youth
  • Violin, a four-stringed instrument, with its origins in 16th century Italy on Earth, that Avarin began studying in anticipation of her plans to attend Starfleet Academy
  • Kal-Toh, a Vulcan game of intense strategy that is played with a set of playing rods called t'an

Background

Avarin was born in Shi'let'theiri, a predominantly agrarian settlement located in the T'Ralor region within a day's travel of the Voroth Sea. As a child, she was taught the Pleenok in school and the Vulcan Lute at home. Her teachers noted her aptitude for mathematics and interest in technology and steered her studies accordingly. While Avarin embraced the discipline of logic, it was discovered that the detachment of emotion proved more difficult for her to master. From the outset, it was clear that Avarin had a good mind but did not easily accept traditional views.

ShiKahr, a desert city located on the edge of Vulcan's Forge. As a child, she learned to dance and was introduced to the Pleenok. Her teachers noted her aptitude for mathematics and interest in technology and steered her studies accordingly. While Avarin embraced the discipline of logic, it was discovered that detachment of emotion proved more difficult for her. From the outset, it was clear that Avarin had a good mind but did not easily accept traditional views. She wears her hair in a short, assymetrical haircut and sits in ways that are comfortable to her. During her early education, her teachers on Vulcan noted time and again that she betrays her emotions through microexpressions. For the most part, she has schooled her face to neutrality. She relies on time spent alone for meditation and reflection. Her parents and older brother encouraged her studies at the ShirKar Academy. There was some debate at the start of her last year when Sevel and Avarin announced their intention of entering Starfleet since the family had collectively assumed the couple would remain on Vulcan. A shuttle accident shortly after graduation claimed Sevel's life. While Avarin recouperated, she decided to continue on the path they had chosen together. She would join Starfleet.

The Academy was Avarin's first exposure to other lifeforms and cultures and she found it all entirely fascinating though the lack of privacy for meditation proved to be a hardship. She observed emotional explosions, laughter, and close contact among her classmates and saw first-hand how, for some races, detachment was completely unnecessary. She studies other philosphies and lifestyles, draws information from them, as though putting together pieces of a large puzzle. But to her, the quiet of engineering, moving through Jeffries tubes, solving the puzzles her instructors placed before her was the life she chose for herself. And if she betrayed frustration by a slight furrow of her brow, the walls of the ship were silent witnesses.
