History
Sovak was born to Federation officers on a mostly Vulcan ship named for the famous Vulcan composer T'Vel. His early years were spent aboard this vessel, which served the inner Federation worlds on diplomatic and scientific matters. T'Nal and Tukol, Sovak's parents, were both killed in action when he was eight years old.
The boy Sovak was sent to live with his father's brother on Vulcan. Life there was very different from what he was used to aboard the T'Vel. He had a tough time adjusting and fitting in with other Vulcan children, and never caught up to their level of training. Sykov sent him away to an intensive kolinahr school, but the kolinahr masters were too hard on him, and he never fit in.
Later, Sovak trained in computer systems technology off-world, then entered Starfleet Academy, still searching for a place where his mixed background would fit in. His roommate was Ren Rennyn, a passionate, outgoing Trill who served as a balance for Sovak's awkward and reserved personality.
Sovak and Ren were posted together to their first assignment, the USS Atlantis. Sovak is a low-ranking OPS officer who is often tasked with thankless tasks and routine maintenance below decks.
