The United Earth AeroNav Combined Services (also known as UEANCS or simply "Combined Services") is the organisation governing the aeronautic and naval functions and operations of United Earth's militaries[1].
As the Federation's founding planet's local military, the Combined Services work in tandem with Starfleet and the Federation Naval Patrol.
History
The origins of the Combined Services traces back to the early 22nd century when Earth began consolidating its military branches in response to increased spacefaring activity and planetary unification efforts. The United Earth AeroNav Forces is initially established to oversee Earth's air and naval operations, ensuring cohesion between different national military traditions.
By the 23rd century, the organization officially rebrands as the United Earth AeroNav Combined Services, recognizing its more integrated approach to planetary defense, disaster relief, and interstellar cooperation. The move solidifies Earth's commitment to maintaining its own defense infrastructure while working alongside Starfleet, which had assumed the role of deep-space exploration and security.
UEANCS continues to operate independently from Starfleet but maintains a close working relationship, often participating in joint training exercises, officer exchanges, and diplomatic secondments.
Structure
AeroNav Command, the central governing body of UEANCS, is located on Norfolk Island in the South Pacific Ocean. It oversees and coordinates the operations of its various military branches, ensuring strategic unity and operational efficiency across Earth's oceans and atmosphere. Branches
Branches
The UEANCS consists of several naval organizations, each responsible for securing different seas on Earth. These organizations report to AeroNav Command and collectively form the Earth Navy.
- Earth Navy – The primary maritime force responsible for global naval operations and planetary defense.
- Royal Navy – A distinguished naval service that traces its lineage back to the United Kingdom. It remains one of Earth's five active naval divisions, providing maritime security, search and rescue, and fleet logistics.
- Air Force – Oversees planetary aerospace security, including atmospheric and low-orbit operations, as well as planetary defense systems.
In addition to these primary divisions, UEANCS has specialized units engaged in scientific exploration, diplomatic engagements, and humanitarian missions. On occasion, branches within UEANCS have been called off-planet to assist with sea-faring operations on smaller colony worlds, such as search and rescue.
Cooperation with Starfleet
The Combined Services and Starfleet maintain an exchange program, allowing officers and specialists from both organizations to train and serve in each other’s ranks. These exchanges foster better inter-service understanding and allow UEANCS personnel to gain valuable experience in space operations.
While Starfleet primarily operates beyond Earth's immediate sphere, UEANCS is responsible for security and emergency response planet-side. The two organizations frequently collaborate in joint defense initiatives and planetary security drills.
