Katsim Peri

Name: Peri Katsim Age: 23 Species: ¾ Bajoran, ¼ Cardassian DOB: 237408.01

Appearance: Peri did not inherit the height of her father, but rather stands at a petite 5’3”, curvy, though she doesn’t usually wear clothing to show it off. Her neck, dark brown eyes, and forehead all show the barest hint of Cardassian markings, those on her neck hidden when she wears her long, black hair down - along with a light grey cast to her skin. Upon the bridge of her nose are the markings that indicate a distinct Bajoran heritage, along with the earring that she wears, given to her by her mother.

Personality:

Peri is not the sort to let a challenge go unmet. She enjoys learning new things and questions about the universe always draw out that curiosity. She likes when there are practical solutions to things, but is flexible enough to know that sometimes, things don’t work out as practically as one would like. While she tends to be on the quiet side, she does enjoy learning about others - as they are a part of the Universe she’s so interested in. The stars particularly call to her, and there are times she can get so wrapped up in her work that she forgets about other things. Peri is not the sort who enjoys confrontation, and will sometimes simply give way, even if it’s to her detriment, rather than to cause a conflict. She enjoys a good joke, but is terrible at making them, and sometimes terrible at getting them - which is then ruined for others because they then have to explain it.

History:

During the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, Peri’s grandmother, Jerya, was a Bajoran, who caught the eye of a Cardassian, Gul Shinal Rirset. Jerya eventually escaped with her daughter in 2352 and found herself a refugee. For several years, Jerya went from place to place until she finally settled in a small colony on Hasoor VII. There she met Grishom Katsim and his son Sylar. He and Peri’s mother, Wirhla grew up together and eventually married in 2371 after Sylar graduated from Starfleet academy. Peri was born four years later.

Growing up, Peri found herself between two worlds. A child of mixed species, she never quite fit in with any of those from her heritage. Her parents have exposed her to the culture of Bajor and, to an extremely limited degree, that of Cardassia, though usually in a negative light. It is enough, however, to spark her curiosity, and make her uncertain of her own place in this world.

Peri’s love of learning was instilled early in her by her father, a scientist himself. Since Sylar was an officer in Starfleet, Peri and her mother went where he was stationed, which allowed her the exposure to all sorts of opportunities. It was the stars themselves that most interested Peri, what they were made of, how they functioned, and the theories inspired her to ponder what the answers might be.

In 2392, at the age of 18, Peri entered Starfleet academy where she majored in Astrophysics with a minor in interstellar anomalies. She graduated in 2396, served on her cadet cruise, and was assigned to her first ship, The USS Thor, in 2397.
