History

In 2151, the Enterprise NX-01 rendezvoused with a Tesnian vessel, which suffered critical systems malfunctions and crashed on an asteroid just before it docked. Subcommander T'Pol later discovered that the ship had been struck by a microsingularity. The Enterprise was able to rescue the crew and transport them back to their homeworld.

This early act of compassion was viewed with respect by the leaders of the Tesnian people and resulted in the slow development of trade and mutual understanding.

While they were not among the founding species that created the Federation they were firm supporters of it and when they eventually requested admission were immediately voted in. Since then they have been firm supporters of the Federation and its policies.

Government

They have had a unified government for almost 1,000 years. Their government is both democratic and designed to perform in such a way as to increase productivity and efficiency. As a result, numerous other species have studied their government and its set up.

Description

They appear to be typical Terrans except for a couple folds/flaps of skin running from beside the eyes back to the ears. Also most males have a small band/patch of lighter colored hair right above their ears. This normally appears after they have reached full maturity. The females have it as well but it is not nearly as noticeable on them as it is on the males.

Physiology

They can breathe a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere, but required six hours of boron gas a day. Other than this they have a complex system not unlike any other intelligent humanoid species.

The other unusual aspect of their physiology is the fact that they can not mate and create a child until they have undergone the physical changes associated with the age of maturity. At this time the hair at the temples becomes lighter and their body chemistry alters to allow them to procreate. For most Tesnians this occurs approximately around the age of 30.

Psychology

While they seem to suffer from fewer forms of mental illness and have an amazing ability to handle high amounts of stress with no adverse affects than other species. However on the flip side they do have a number of unusual mental conditions that affect the elderly that have so far been impossible to cure.

Religion

The Tesnian people believe in a benevolent and caring female deity they call Varja. While the entire population are believers and visit a temple almost daily they are not intolerant of others and their beliefs.

In fact while most homes and numerous shrines are scattered everywhere and have statues dedicated to her, she seems to be a love your family and live your life well kind of goddess.

Mythology

The only thing they have that comes close to a myth is stories of a strange beast that will some day come and threaten Varja. In the past she was able to appease its blood thirsty appetite and her quiet passive determination to survive is a quality of most of these stories.

Society

They have an extremely well developed society with everyone having access to free education and medical treatment. There is no poor element to their society as everyone is cared for and treated with respect. Some believe this is a natural side affect of their strong, yet passive religious beliefs.

Culture

They have a strong love of music and many other forms of artistic expression. As a result they have numerous museums, galleries and theaters. Their cities are well laid out with plenty of space, clean and organized. They also have numerous gardens, parks and play areas for kids and adults.

Customs

The most common and well known custom is that of the age of maturity. When a male or a female reaches this pivotal milestone in their development they can finally form a lasting bond and mate. Prior to this it is impossible for them to conceive a child. As a result it is celebrated by family and friends and not unusual sometimes with a mating ritual.

Technology

They are about average for a Federation member world. Although they do have a number of very large universities and research facilities that work in conjuncture with other Federation species to produce new and useful technologies.

Economy

They have a very strong and well developed trade system with numerous other species. As a result they have a strong, well developed internal economy which allows them to care for their entire population.

Military

They never maintained more than a token military force in their history. They never needed to use it and once they became members of the Federation this continued to be true.
