History
The Reformation
The Ehrud Reformation began with Keeper Kiro Ho'orati, one of the most renowned theologians on the Ehrud home world and a member of the Directorate of Keepers (see section on religion and Starfleet Intelligence Files for more details).
The Reformation movement caused a schism that divided the Eastern Continent into the Spiritos and the Traditionalists. On the Western Continent three countries formed, Desko, Entvik, and Skokoloi. Despite the religious warfare, it was during this time that the international language, Ehrudite Standard, was created and adopted by the five countries.
Land disputes and religious intolerance led to a world war amongst the nations, resulting in the death of hundreds of millions. Keeper Ho'orati, filled with guilt and blaming himself for the war, took his own life in 2040. The death was mourned by the Reformationists, and the countries in which they had power, Skokoloi and the land of the Spiritos, called for peace. Their calls were ignored.
Space Age
The devout Spirito Gina Narrate developed the first Ehrudite warp engine in 2340. With the first successful flight of the SS Sdoom-'k-Herat completed, the Skokoloi's and Eastern Spiritos' governments entered into negotiations to merge the two countries and entered peace talks with the other three nations. Despite centries of fighting the talks went fast, taking only two months to be finalized and resulting in the nations merging into three nations. Skokoloi and the land of the Eastern Spiritos merged to create Hej Skokoloi. Desko and the land of the Eastern Traditionalists merged to create Deskokoloi. Entvik remained much as it had, but now with better trade connections to the much more resource-plentiful lands of the Deskokoloi and Hej Skokoloi.
The Ferengi contacted the nations of Ehrud five years before the Federation, resulting in them having a close relationship with the Ferengi and a bias against the Federation.
Government
kingdom based
Description
A generally peaceful hairless humanoid species.
Physiology
Ehrud move slower than many other humanoids.
Appearance
They are hairless with skin that is generally pale.
- Height: Between 2 to 2.5 meters.
- Face: Have a elongated jaw line when compared to other humanoids.
Internal Biology
The Ehrud differ from humans in that they have a linked digestive system and heart. Food is digested quickly into their blood which is extremely thick in comparison to other humanoid blood. This thick blood has resulted in a large heart and cuts that are life threatening to other humanoids congeal quickly.
They are able to go without food for weeks at a time.
Ehrud are strong for their size.
Life Cycle
- Average Life Span: 160 standard years
- Adulthood: Ehurd reach maturity at around 30 years old.
Psychology
The Ehrud are a generally quiet and peaceful people.
Religion
They have a religious feast and festival every few weeks of their year.
Spirit of the Law
Around over 300 years ago the Heratian faith was amalgamated with, or simply replaced, the religions and cults of the Western Continent. The theologian, Keeper Kiro Ho'orati, wrote the "Spirit of the Law" which argued against strict adherence to the Heratian holy book, the Sdoom-'k-Herat. Those who joined his movement called themselves "Spiritos", and believe that the Loi ("Gods") would save the souls of those who followed the spirit of law and not those who followed the letter of the law without thinking. Ho'orati officially began the Reformation movement, which quickly spread throughout the Western Continent, many districts in which were glad to be able to follow the old traditions and still have their souls saved.

Customs
Warfare
- An enforced religious custom during warfare is that if one kills another on the battlefield then they must watch the s'doom (light) leave their opponent's eyes.
- Before battle the two armies kneel across from each other and receive blessings from priests.
- After the battle the priests perform the last rights to those of their faith.
Technology
Most Ehrud have access to running water, electricity, and sanitation.
Medical Technology
- Similar to that of the Federation.
Military
Historically, most of their combat is based in hand-to-hand fighting. They use hand held weapons known as phyk blades and takkens.
Since contact with the Ferengi the nations have armed themselves with ranged weapons. Each nation maintains its own military.
Starfleet Intelligence Files
They are humanoids, very much like humans, and seem to share a close visual resemblance. They maintain a societal structure which can best be described as kingdom based, and attained warp capability forty years ago (2340). It seems that they would have made fine additions to the Federation had the Ferengi not contacted them first, about five years before us. This, of course, led to unfortunate bias against the Federation, and a close relationship to the Ferengi.

...and so, as the Heratian faith was amalgamated with, or simply replaced, the religions and cults of the Western Continent, it seemed that the smaller, less significant Eastern Continent would gain control over the many and varied districts of the West. However, this was not to be the case with the dissidence of one of the Heratian religion's most prestigious and famous followers: Keeper Kiro Ho'orati. Ho'orati was one of the most renowned theologians on the Ehrud home-world, and was a leading member in the Directorate of Keepers. He turned the Heratian religion on its head with his "Spirit of the Law" treaty, nailed on the doors of Iutsdoom (literally "of night") Cathedral. With this, Ho'orati officially began the Reformation movement, which quickly spread throughout the Western Continent, many districts in which were glad to be able to follow the old traditions and still have their souls saved. The "Spiritos", as the came to be called, called for an abandonment of the strict, and at sometime contradictory, doctrine of the Sdoom-'k-Herat (literally "light in the night", the name of the Heratian holy book) and argued that the Loi ("Gods") would save the souls of those who followed the spirit of law and believed, not those who followed the letter of the law without thinking.
The Reformation movement caused a schism in the balance of power, splintering the Eastern Continent, which was once unified with the strongest religious and lingual bonds, into two separate powers, the Spiritos and the Traditionalists, who waged war against each other for control over the Eastern Continent. The Western Continent formed itself into three separate countries (named "Desko", "Entvik" and "Skokoloi": literally "Land Which Is Home", "Old Paths" and "Home Of The Gods"). Despite the political upheaval and religious wars, an international language was created, the Common Tongue, or Ehrudite Standard, which was adopted by all five new powers.
However, all the countries warred with their neighbours of land disputes and religious intolerance. The death toll of the first world war of this planet hit the hundreds of millions within a decade. So distraught was Ho'orati at the thought that he had caused this, despite his good intentions of ending the oppression of the Western Continent by the Eastern Continent, killed himself by hanging (the symbolic death endured by the first god, Loi-Kiv). The death was mourned by the Reformationists, and the countries in which they had power, Skokoloi and the land of the Spiritos, called for peace. Their calls were ignored. (P. 13)
...forty years ago, exactly three-hundred years after the suicide of Spirito-leader Kiro Ho'orati, devout Spirito Gina Narrate developed the first Ehrudite warp engine. This was the impetus the pacifist Spiritos needed to try and bring peace to the planet which had been war stricken for nearly four centuries. As the first successful flight of the SS Sdoom-'k-Herat was completed, the Skokoloi's and Eastern Spiritos' governments were in negotiations to merge the two countries, and were making peace treaties with the other three powers. All was agreed within two months, and three new world powers emerged, each with agreed borders and territories, each owning roughly about one-third the globe each. Skokoloi and the land of the Eastern Spiritos merged to create Hej Skokoloi (New Skokoloi); Desko and the land of the Eastern Traditionalists merged to create Deskokoloi (Land Which Is Home Of The Gods); and the wild-card Entvik remained much as it had, but now with better trade connections to the much more resource-plentiful lands of the Deskokoloi and Hej Skokoloi. This was something the Entvik people resented...(P. 26)
...and the Entvik people had the ability to step in as deities to the Nalgurans. While both Hej Skokoloi and Deskokoloi agreed (amazingly) that acting as false gods was tantamount to praying to false gods, a practice so sinful that executing it would lead to a mark so black on one's her-g'I (literally "soul-score") that the Loi would never redeem that soul, the Entvik people had no such qualms. With this new source of slave labour, Entvik soon grew far richer that was proportionate for a country so barren of natural resources, and both the other countries wanted this same wealth. Within five years religious hesitancies were cast aside under the pressure of market forces, and soon Nalgurans slaves were as much a part of Ehrudite life as Heratianity itself. It seems that both the holy book Sdoom-'k-Herat and Kiro Ho'orati were utterly forgotten, that era had passed...(P. 29)
...in this way the countries bound themselves under the title the United Ehrudite Theocracies. The UET was the united face that the Ehrudites chose to show the galaxy, under the careful tutelage of the Ferengi. By no means is the UET a world government in the same way as Terra's government or Quo'nos' government are. The UET is simply a diplomatic construct where chosen representatives from each of the countries are sent to discuss world issues in the light of galactic affairs. Each country still has its own theocratic government (Spirito Heratian, Traditionalist Heratian and "Entvik"), and each still has its own disputes with the others. The UET is simply a political tool to allow the Ehrud greatest galactic advantage. With, of course, the aid of the Ferengi...(P.31)

Technology of the Erhud
Due to the lack of u271 or uranium on the planet, the warfare on the Ehrud was of a more personal nature. Due to the religious strictures on the killing of another, it was enforced that if you were to kill a man you must be able to witness the leaving of his s'doom (light) in his eyes die with him. Thus most of the weapons technology is concerned with personal and short range combat. The one engagement that was observed by the crew of the USS Newton was a singularly bloody affair when seen from the perspective of the almost bloodless phaser technology.
There were 2 great masses of people that approached each other across a field that looked as if it had been the site of many more of these engagements. They stopped approx 20 yards from each other and both parties knelt to receive the blessings of their priests. They then stood and with a blood curdling howl charged each other with phyk blades (see index for description) and takkens flashing in the sunlight. In a matter of moments the superior force took control of the field and the lesser started to retreat. There is no concept of mercy in the hearts of these people for those that they consider heretics. Imagine the spanish inquisition of our history for an example of how they treat non-believers. Once the battle was complete there was just a clean up performed by the priests where they gave last rights to those of their faith while killing those that were not.
Technological report for the Ehrud
- Military: Not much in the way of ranged combat but can give the Klingons a run for their money in hand-to-hand. This is slowly but surely changing due to their contact with the Ferengi. When the Ferengi were first encountered they lost severely due to the lack of ranged weapons. Once the Entvik people started arming their people with ranged weapons it was merely a matter of time before the Hej and Deskokoloi had to match pace or be overwhelmed by the Entvik.
- Domestic: Minimal due to the overwhelming military production of war time. Most domestic technology is of the grade of approximately a 20th century Earth city. Most have running water, electricity, and sanitation. They all have military skills due to the high rate of attrition due to the wars.
- Medical: Very high medical technology. Being at war for 400+ years will make medical technicians very proficent. Combat triage and medical advances equal to Federation level of advancement.
- Social: Mass transit and transporters. The Entvik have a form of slave control that is utilized by placing a microchip inside the brain where one of the persons with a device can either stimulate the pleasure sensors or the pain sensors in the brain. It is unknown if they can translate this tech to different species or if it is specific to the Nalgurans.
As far as ship technology goes we have to assume they are not very advanced in long range weapons due to the fact that until the last forty years they were really against not being able to see the light go out in an enemy's eyes when you kill them. With them having only discovered warp technology fairly recently it is speculation on my part that what ever weapons and sheilding they have has been given by the Ferengi. I speculate that they were given this technology for a percentage of the profits from the mineral rich planets.

Medical Data
- Medical Library, article 45 Erhud Physiology notes AdSh/0112/PAL
- Note's from the manuscript of Prof. Adamis Shuulluwa. Week five.
What a gentle and wonderful people are these that have a religious feast and festival every few weeks of their year.
The Ehrud are a generally quiet and peaceful people, they have an average life span of some 160 years, they reach maturity after some 30 years.
Compared to the average human they look like giants, reaching an average height of between 2 to 2.5 meters in height. In most cases they are Caucasian and hairless with a slightly elongated jaw line. The Ehrud heart and digestive system are linked in away that enables them to digest food very quickly into there own life blood. The Ehrud blood being extremely thick explains the large size of the heart, most cuts and even by human standards serious or lethal wounds will congeal relatively quickly they are able to go with out food for weeks at a time. The Ehrud are extremely strong even for their size and would find most species weak in comparison, however their movement is very slow and yet not at all clumsy.
Their culture is riddled with religion, history, politics and war. Their physiology is very similar to that of the Terrans of Earth apart from the heart and digestive functions.
In their early years of space flight they unfortunately encountered the Ferengi who bought and sold them like slaves, even the Ehrud used their own captives and traded them for the vast technological aid that they were able to provide. After time the Ehrud got smart and learned to play the Ferengi at their own game.
Addendum: There is a more concise medical break down for any one who wishes see medical file Erhud 655/EHS-7...... Or by all means my office is always open.
