Manner
Maeda is a very quiet and reserved man, quite in contrast to his bubbly partner and son. He loves ancient and traditional Japanese culture, and enjoys introducing his new family to it. He has altered the family quarters to this taste, especially the furniture. The family's table is a kotatsu, a low table with a surrounding blanket and floor cushions. He was able to replicate tatami reed floor mats, and even futon mattresses for the beds.
His favorite movies are Godzilla films from the 20th century. he especially enjoys watching these with Ben.
History
Maeda grew up on Earth, in Japan. His mother was the owner of a small antiques shop, where Kyo grew into his love of traditional Japanese culture. He never knew his father, and was raised by his mother and grandmother. He enlisted in Starfleet at age 18, but after a couple of years he transferred to the Academy to become an officer.
After graduating from the academy, Maeda was stationed at the Duronis II Embassy as a security officer. He had taken down an intruder in the Rodul Embassy and been badly wounded, sending him to the hospital. He met Talia Kaji, a Rodulan doctor, there. They talked a lot while he was in recovery, and after he was discharged, he asked her out on a date. He made a point to visit her every time he came to the hospital for physical therapy.
Their relationship grew quickly, becoming more serious. Before their move, Talia found out she was pregnant. It wasn't planned, but she and Kyo were thrilled.
Rodulans very much discourage unplanned pregnancies, and the Kaji Family tried to force Talia to return home so her older family could raise the child. Kaji and Maeda decided to raise the child themselves away from Rodul. Kaji joined Starfleet to give her the freedom to leave her home system.
