This is currently a work in progress. We are building these out during our mission. Until this note is removed, consider everything here as draft.

The Cheydalanga were a minor member of the Dominion just before the end of the war, on the far side of the former Dominion sphere of influence[1] In 2401, they contacted were contacted by the United Dominion of Planets, and in response, the Cheydaldangan government reached out to the United Federation of Planets. The USS Octavia E. Butler responded to the call.

History

The Cheydalanga originate from the planet Cheyd'lang, which features diverse geography including:

  • The mountains of Somatrik
  • The wetlands of Tameric (original home of the Cheydalanga)
  • Cheyd'lang was a minor member of the Dominion before the end of the Dominion War
  • The planet is currently in contact with both the United Federation of Planets and the United Dominion of Planets
  • Internal political tensions exist between factions favoring and opposing outside contact

Government

The current government structure is unclear however it is suggested that Cheyd operate on a system where ones birth dictates a cheyd's role. However it was suggested by Intercessor Ulto'Delarento that one can work their way up to a Government position [2] This however is rare.

Physiology

The Cheydalanga are often described as "turtle people" with the following physical characteristics:

  • Bipedal humanoids
  • Smooth heads
  • Slits in place of noses
  • Large, expressive eyes
  • Whitish-green skin (at least in some individuals)
  • Beak-like mouths (observed in some individuals)

Psychology

The Chey'd can be described as a turtle like people, however there are number of different subspecies that have organised themselves. For example, the Mongar Chey'd have small beak and a build suited for physical work and combat.

Religion

Unknown at this time.

Mythology

Unknown at this time.

Society

Cheydalanga society operates on a caste system called Chey'd'bacla, which:

  • Assigns roles based on birth
  • Limits social mobility
  • Was reinforced during Dominion occupation

Social Groups

Notable groups within Cheydalanga society include:

  • The Intercessor: A political leader advocating for societal changes
  • The King's Path: A xenophobic faction opposing outside contact
  • The Mongar: A caste serving as soldiers and technicians

Culture & Language

Chey'd culture is based on a caste system known as the Chey’d’bacla[3] in which one is born into their role. More often then not, this is determined by your subspecies.

The Chey'd communicate using third person pronouns, refereeing to themselves as "this one" and refereeing to someone else as "that one." The first person pronouns such as "you" and "I" are only used to refer to slaves, criminals and undesirables in Chey'd culture.[4]

This one - Referring to self

That one - Referring to one person

These ones - Referring to a group of people, typically used if you had a group on your side. More friendly (These ones are family)

Those ones - Referring to a group of people, used maybe more formally, or more professionals. (When talking about The Kings Paths - Those ones don't speak for Chey'd kind)

Chey'd use a base 12 number system and their calendar reflects that.

Ci'clo - One day - 24 hours - Same as earth

Do'ante - One Week - 12 days - Four days more then Earth

Quo'rante- One month - 12x4 -48 days - about 16/18 more then earth

Cele'stiale - One year is four months - 240 days - ~120 less then earth

Stal'lare is 240 x 12 - 2880 days - ~820 less then earth

Galatta - One century is ten decades - 34,560 days ~1940 less then earth

Customs

Not much is know about their customs at this time.

Technology

Cheydalanga technology is described as:

  • Older and partially salvaged from the Dominion
  • Including basic communication systems
  • A subject of interest for some Cheydalanga seeking advancement

However their ship building facilities may have the potential to be a key player in the Gamma Quadrant.

Economy

Military

The majority of Cheydalanga military is made up of the Mongar Caste The Mongar caste:

  • The Mongar are a caste within Cheydalanga society that primarily serves as soldiers and technicians.
  • They have a military structure, with ranks such as Lower Lieutenant (equivalent to Starfleet's Lieutenant Junior Grade).
  • Physically, Mongar have short beaks and thick, tough, keratinized scales on their skin.
  • Some Mongar express a desire for education and opportunities beyond their traditional military roles.

Military aspects:

  • The Jem'hadar occupation during the Dominion War had a significant impact on the Mongar and their military development.
  • The Mongar have experience with various weapons, including rifles.
  • Some Mongar, like Lower Lieutenant Domeni'Dolce, express a preference for building and technical work over combat roles.

Current situation:

  • There appears to be a movement within the Mongar caste seeking education and skill development beyond traditional military roles.
  • Some Mongar leaders are advocating for changes in their society, potentially as part of a larger plan for social reform.

Other Indigenous Species

The Antani are another sapient species native to Cheyd'lang, primarily inhabiting the mountains of Somatrik.
