History

Nothing is known regarding their early history and all indicators seem to be that this situation will continue as they continue to guard their small empire with relentless determination. No ships have ever been permitted to cross their border.

In 2269, the Vedala specifically notified several races that something extremely hazardous to the galaxy was developing, as the Soul of the Skorr had been stolen and the Vedala were attempting to prevent a jihad.

Although aware of the location of the Soul of the Skorr, they sent for selected specialists to conduct a mission on their behalf. This was necessary, as the Vedala, who despite being a powerful race, were unable to survive in the environment of the "mad planet" where the mission was to take place. Because the Vedala were unable to visit the "mad planet", they were unable to specify the location of the Soul, hence the need for their proposed expeditions.

Despite the failure of the first three expeditions, the Vedala called for a fourth, as they were determined to prevent this extremely hazardous development. For their mission briefing, those chosen were called to converge at a Vedala asteroid to learn of the mission.

For the fourth expedition, the Vedala chose the following specialists: Sord, (presumably) for his strength; Em/3/Green, an expert locksmith and thief; Lara, for her flawless directional sense; Spock, for his analytical mind and scientific expertise; and James T. Kirk, for his leadership and adaptability. Together they were to assist Tchar, hereditary prince of the Skorr, in locating the Soul of the Skorr.

During their briefing, the Vedala utilized holographic technology to present known information on the "mad planet". They also utilized a long-distance transporter device that immediately transported the expedition team from the Vedala asteroid to the "mad planet". Along with the expedition team, the Vedala provided a ground vehicle to assist in their search.

Following the mission, they proved that they possessed the ability to manipulate time. They also noted that they had the ability to cure an individual of mental madness.

In 2286 the Romulans attempted to sneak a cloaked vessel across their border. The few remaining fragments that survived its destruction were passed on to the Federation to deliver back to the Romulans with this message. “Another attempt will be considered a declaration of war.” Since then the Romulans have avoided their borders.

Since that time there has been no formal contact and almost no informal contact between the Vedala and any known species at least as far as the Federation is aware of. All attempts to open a more formal communication has been met with polite refusals and more often than not simple silence.

Government

Currently not much is known about their government except that they are governed by a Tribunal, one with representatives from each of the major departments within their government.

Description

This canine humanoid species is slim, covered in white fur with hands and feet that more resemble those of a canine than a human even though they have long fingers ending in razor sharp claws. They walk with a hunched over shuffling gait and can when they want drop back down onto all fours and run at speeds impossible for someone on 2 legs to match. However they can not sustain these speeds for very long. They have a long bushy tail which tends to move more when they are agitated. For some reason they have 3 thin strips of black fur on their heads that run from the from to the back and their skulls are flatter and wider than they would be on most humanoids.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Due to their advanced medical capabilities they seem to be able to treat any and all medical problems including all known forms of mental illness.

Psychology

Very little is known about this aspect of their society. What is known is that they are susceptible to various types of mental illness but they also have an extremely advanced technological ability to successfully treat all of these conditions.

Religion

Not much is known about this aspect of their society. What is known is that they have a strong, well developed belief system and that one member of the Tribunal is some kind of religious figure, most likely some kind of priest, monk or prophet.

Mythology

They do not seem to have any form of myths, just a deep understanding of the physical world and their own history. Experts believe that this might be a recent result of their advanced temporal technology. Even if it is not their use of such technology would go a long way towards expanding their knowledge of both their history and their possible future.

Society

Based on the very limited contact and limited amount of data available it would seem that they have a very organized and well-structured society. This contact has so far only been with their mobile asteroid weapons platforms that also seem to serve as mini-colonies.

As a result these asteroids have all the perks needed for comfortable living such as schools, recreational facilities, medical facilities, sanitation, transportation, ample safe clean power and clean air and water. Everyone seems to be happy, content and well treated with no outward signs of civil problems of any kind.

Culture

They have a fully developed culture with many forms of artistic expression but do not seem to have much interest in any artistic works created by any other species. In fact they show a marked lack of interest in any and all alien art forms regardless of who created it and what form it takes.

Customs

Very little is known about this aspect of their society except that there have been indicators, casual comments and other noticeable factors that would seem to confirm that like any intelligent species they have developed their own unique little quirks.

Technology

The Vedala appear to be very advanced in temporal and medical practices, such as being able to manipulate time and cure mental madness. They also have advanced holographic technology and a long distance transporter that easily exceeds anything even dreamt of by Federation scientists at this time.

Economy

They seem to be completely self-sufficient as no species that the Federation has contact with have any records of any trade having been conducted with them. This seems to support the data that the Vedala seem to be a very reclusive species, one that guards the borders of their small empire very carefully.

Military

Long range scans have confirmed that the Vedala have frigates, destroyers, cruisers and battleships within their fleet. The Klingons even report having scanned a vessel that they have classified as a super-dreadnaught as it was twice the size of the largest ship in the Klingon fleet.

Added to this is the fact that the Vedala use extra-large asteroids as mobile weapons platforms. These asteroids have been hollowed out, reinforced and equipped with engines, shields and weapon systems. They are fully contained with greenhouses, recreational facilities and all the amenities.

Federation Intelligence Files

The Vedala were an ancient feline civilization that rarely made contact with other races and cultures. By 2269 they were the oldest spacefaring race known to the United Federation of Planets and appeared to be very advanced in temporal and medical practices, such as being able to manipulate time and cure mental madness.

The Klingons had dealt with the Vedala through Ambassador Kage at some point prior to 2311.
