The goal of this small project is simply to clean up last year's award list and compile it into a usable file. Normally I do this myself, but it's just gotten away from me in the past 10 months - I'm horrible, I know! :P
So, start by taking a look at this file (unwieldy name, I know!). That's how these files are supposed to look, and it's from the 2006 ceremony.
Now move on to this file. That's what I currently have.
Part 1
There are two parts that need to be completed. Here's the first set of tasks.
- Cleanup ranks: FIRST - make sure you do not update the ranks to their current rank. Keep in mind, this is SUPPOSED to reflect the 2007 ceremony, NOT today! Then, we need to make sure the ranks ONLY use these abbreviations:
- Ens.
- Lt. JG.
- Lt.
- Lt. Cmdr.
- Cmdr.
- Capt.
- Names: All the names need to be checked for completeness and accuracy. You'll need to use the UPDS for some of them.
- Make sure both a first and last name are there.
- Make sure the names are spelled right.
- Organize by ship and award: As you can see on the example file from 2006, there's one set where the it's organized by Ship, and another set where it's organized by award. We need to do the same thing here.
- Consolidate: On the 2006 example file, you'll see that in the organization by ship section, people with multiple awards are consolidated onto one line.
- List order
- In the by-ship list, higher ranks come first, then lower.
- In the by-award list, names are listed alphabetically by ship. (I.e.- Challenger before Ursa Major)
- Count: As you can see on the example 2006 file, the awards are counted.
Keep in mind: it would be great if everyone would check everyone else's work, so we don't end up with any errors :D
Part 2
To come, once the first set is completed...
Thanks, everyone :) --Wolf /talk page 20:37, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
