"In peace and war it is always best to strike first."
a Jarpax proverb.
The Jarpax are a species of intelligent humanoids who seem to enjoy conflict, both militarily and politically. They are made up of a loose coalition of noble families who are only interested in what is best for their family at the expense of all others.

History

Their history is one of almost constant warfare with large areas of their homeworld controlled by different noble families. These families were almost constantly at war with one another, fighting for land, resources, honor, glory, revenge or as part of some negotiations.

Once they discovered space travel and other habitable worlds the scope of these wars diminished as they quickly rushed to claim other worlds and to establish colonies.

When they came into contact with other species they fought them, seeking to conquer them in the name of which ever noble family was fighting the war. In this way they managed to grow until they had colonies, outposts and bases in more than 5 different sectors of space.

In 2379 while exploring in the Gamma quadrant the USS Copenhagen intercepted a distress beacon from a facility under attack by the Jarpax. When they went to investigate they discovered the facility had been destroyed with no survivors and were attacked by two destroyer class vessels belonging to the Basonasi noble family.

Government

Their government is made up of a loose coalition of noble families. Each noble family sends 1 member to serve on the noble council. The council seems to work more as a center for inter family negotiations more than it does as a governing body. Regardless this group serves to mediate the actions and aspirations of the various noble families as part of the greater whole that they call the Jarpax Confederacy.

Each of these noble families is completely independent and in most cases does not observe or accept the authority of the noble council to govern or dictate their actions. Each noble family has total control over all of their people and may declare war on other noble families or any alien species. At the same time each noble family can make any trade deals, treaties or negotiations they want with any other noble family or alien species. These deals are only good with their family and have no bearing on any other noble family.

Description

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Psychology

They have a very ridged, militaristic outlook on life. Added to this is the extremely distinct differences between the various different members of the noble families and the common people.

No funds or effort is wasted on treating mental health issues among the common people while different noble families will deal with the same issues among their own on a case by case basis.

As with most intelligent humanoids there does seem to be evidence that they suffer from the typical mix of mild to major mental health issues.

Religion

Nothing is known about this aspect of their society at this time.

Mythology

Nothing is known about this aspect of their society at this time.

Society

Their entire society is divided up into regions controlled by the different noble families. Conditions between regions, colonies and conquered alien species can vary greatly depending on which noble family controls it.

Noble Families

Regardless of which noble family is being discussed the following seems to be true in regards to all of them. There is a distinct and clear division between members of the noble family and those who serve, live under their control. All of the noble families seem to be large with between 50 to 500 male members.

Culture

While artistic art forms of many kinds are enjoyed by the various noble families only music is available to the common people.

Customs

Males and females have very distinctly different roles in their society regardless of their class. Women of both noble and common families raise the children, serve their husbands and can be traded, sold into marriage by their fathers and families. They have no authority or rights of any kind.

Men on the other hand rule their homes with an iron fist, with the older male members of a family dictating the rules, jobs and positions to be held by junior members of the family.

Noble women can give orders to commoners with the same authority and penalties as those inflicted by noble men.

Technology

Their military technology is on a par with the Federation but their civilian technology is at least 50 to 100 years behind. They do not have transporter, replicator or holographic technology

Economy

Each noble family controls their own network of freighters and trade and some of the families are extremely rich with lots of raw resources, trade goods and surplus materials while others are barely able to scrape by.

Members of all of the noble families live very well while the people under them may be doing well or just surviving depending on the mood, ability and system that the ruling noble family has in regards to their people.

Military

Each noble family has their own military forces and while their infantry seem to be basically all the same with similar weapons, training and organization their space fleets are an entirely different thing.

On average most noble families can field between 500,000 to 1 million infantry troops. At least 10% of these have been trained for ship to ship combat. These same noble families usually have between 50 and 200 ships of various different designs, sizes, offensive and defensive capabilities.

Federation Intelligence Files

In 2379 the USS Copenhagen had a running fight with two destroyer class vessels belonging to the Basonasi noble family.

Orvasi Colony

Data would seem to indicate that this system is well outside what is considered to be Jarpax controlled space, approximately 33 light years from the closest border of the Jarpax Confederacy.

  • Quadrant: Gamma
  • Location: Owayemi Sector
  • Proper Name: Orvasi system
  • Star: It orbits a class K (Orange) star
  • Distance from Star: its orbit is approximately 302 million km
  • Companions: It is the 3rd of 9 planets in the system
  • Moons: it has 2 small moons and 1 tiny one

Colony Data

  • Proper Name: Orvasi III
  • Diameter: 14,??? km (8,896 miles)
  • Gravity: 0.94% standard gravity with a density of 4.6
  • Axial Tilt: 9.9%, with normal seasonal changes
  • Orbital Period: 353 days
  • Rotational Period: 22.9 hours
  • Classification: M
    • Surface Water: 68%
    • Atmosphere: 1.06% is a standard pressure with 75% nitrogen, 24% oxygen, 1% trace chemicals
    • Climate: Mainly a temperate planet with tropical and arctic zones.
    • Terrain: One massive continent and a large number of smaller islands. Dense rainforests, extinct and active volcanoes, some hills and rugged areas.
    • Population: It has less than 500,000

· Orvasi - They discovered the system and named it the Orvasi system after their family. They have the largest colony on the planet with almost 200,000 people. It is located on the largest land mass on the west coast. It has one major city with about 1/3 of their total population located on a major bay with a massive river running into it. They have about 2,000 infantry and 1 small military frigate capable of landing on the planet surface.

· Gurdasi - They have the second largest colony on Orvasi III with about 150,000 people on the east coast of the largest land mass. They have two major cities along the coast with about ¼ of their total population in each one. The rest of their people are scattered in between these two cities. They have about 1,500 infantry.

· Valjasi – They have the third largest colony with about 90,000 people scattered over 4 islands about half way between the east coast of the main continent and the island colony belonging to the Ilnasi. They have about 900 infantry.

· Ilnasi - They have the smallest colony on Orvasi III with only about 30,000 people located on a single island that is about 130 square miles in size. It is on the opposite side of the planet from the main continent with the Orvasi and Gurdasi colonies. They have about 300 infantry.
