The Vegathan are a collective of Caraadian farmers who colonised the planet Vegath.

History

The Vegathans are the descendants of Caraadians who colonized the 3rd planet in the Solerian system and named it Vegath. This was one of many colonies established by the Caraadians outside of their own system thousands of years ago.

From the very beginning this agricultural planet supplied massive amounts of food to the rest of the region. Its excellent weather, pleasant environment and vast rolling plains made it ideal as a new starting place for colonists, so much so that after less than 150 years the Caraadian government stopped shipping settlers to this world.

Time passed, they expanded to settle every corner of their world and as they did they started to change in small ways. Their skin tones had changed taking on a darker almost rich tan color.

Following the end of the war and the start of the infighting between the various factions and Houses of the Caraadians they stood apart and took no sides or interest in the outcome. Eventually disgusted with the continued insanity they could see going on all around them they declared their independence.

The Vegathans would take no part and now determine their own destiny. Most of the Houses and factions took no notice. They had more important problems to deal with.

The first meeting between the Federation and the Vegathans was when the USS Providence "re-discovered" them on an exploration mission.

Government

The planet was surveyed and had 13 strategically selected sites chosen for towns to be constructed. Around these communities were miles and miles of farmland. As a result these 13 towns grew over time into major cities governing the 13 provinces. Each city has a council of 13 that govern the province.

When they declared their independence the 13 councils banded together to form the basis of a world government. They have no interest in interstellar politics, and want to be left alone as an independent people.

Description

Just like humans and a large number of other species that resemble humans they have a wide range of eye color with various types of body shapes, heights and weights being the normal. For the most part they all seem to have a rich tan color skin tone and dark often black hair.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Psychology

As with most intelligent species they can and sometimes do suffer from various different types of mental illness. Fortunately they have an excellent treatment program and progressive ideology when it comes to treatment.

Mythology

While they still retain much of the original data they brought with them as colonists, they have developed and created their own tales, myths and legends from those early years of colonization.

Society

While originally settled as an agricultural colony they have retained a definite feeling of rural energy. This may be due to the great efforts used to ensure that no damage has ever been done to their environment or the huge amount of effort taken to reduce the impact of their presence on the environment as a whole.

Regardless of the reason communities are well laid out with more than ample amenities of all kinds available to everyone. Plants, green space and nature have been incorporated into ever aspect of these communities. Crime is low, emergency services are well trained and well prepared to deal with just about anything and the people have a relaxed, friendly attitude.

Culture

While they do enjoy most types of artistic expression and have a number of large well stocked museums and galleries littered with off world creations and some of their own works as well it is music that has really flourished. Countless different styles and types of music are enjoyed with thousands of tunes being played daily all over their world.

Customs

With their origins and continued existence based on agriculture it is no surprise that the major celebrations enjoyed by them as a people are all geared around the planting and harvesting of the many different crops that they produce each and every year. These celebrations are an excuse for large numbers of people to take a day off and relax with music, lots of food, strong drink and dancing. Everyone in most communities look forward eagerly to each and every one of these celebrations, in fact more couples get married during these celebrations than during the entire rest of the year combined.

Technology

Since breaking off and declaring their independence they have slowly fallen behind the Caraadian when it comes to technology and scientific research. However even with that they are still considered to be an advanced and progressive species.

Economy

They have a very strong economy which is still based on agriculture and export approximately 2.5 billion tons of excess food every year. This is mainly due to their ability to grow crops year round and most farmers are able. Thanks to a large number of deep underground mines they can now produce enough raw materials to function and continue to produce those tools and other equipment that they need to maintain their current way of life.

Military

The Vegathans have only a handful of civilian transports, with minimal armament, and cargo haulers. They have no interstellar navy to speak of, and no interest in building one. They are peaceful farmers, and have been left to their own business for thousands of years.

Federation Intelligence Files

The first meeting between the Federation and the Vegathans was when the USS Providence made contact during a routine exploration mission into the system.
