Daughter of Lt. Leena Marrin. Kael is a typical Starfleet brat, who has been dragged around from post to post. Growing up without her father has put her in a standoffish position. She is often emotionally distant, bored and rude. Her last post before being transferred to the Apollo, was with her mother aboard the USS Morningstar.

Disappearance of her mother

Kael's mother Leena was the commander of the air group (or CAG) aboard the Morningstar. She went out on patrol two months ago, and never came back. There was no debris found, nor any signs of distress, accident, or destruction. Therefore her mother was declared as MIA/AWOL. Rumors persisted that she may have even defected to join the new Maquis. However, Kael maintains that her mother is not a traitor, nor is she dead.

Lt. Kael, somehow bored, on Risa.

Leena's living will and discovery of her real father

After it had been declared that Leena Marrin was lost and more than likely deceased, it was declared in her living will that the name of Kael's real father be revealed to her. After checking Starfleet records and doing a comparative DNA test to those on file, it was discovered that Kael's father was none other than Nate Wilmer. Fleet Captain Vickers, head of the Department of Starfleet Family Affairs, transferred Kael to Nate, who was aboard the USS Apollo, at the time. Since Kael had no legal right to govern herself, Nate became an official parent to her. Her only other alternative was to live in an orphanage until she turned 18.

Friendship with Charlotte Farnsworth

Kael encountered Charlotte Farnsworth, one evening at the conclusion of the New Sydney prisoner mission (Stardate 239205.04). The two hit it off, wrecking Nate Wilmer's quarters, listening to Klingon Nagh Bom (rock music), and eating generous amounts of Mulukhiyah. Though Kael finds Charlotte's lifestyle intriguing and counterculture to Starfleet lifestyle, Nate is concerned about what she might be learning from the former criminal.

Lt. Leena Marrin, Kael's mother.
