|MISSION HISTORY=The Rogue Planet - USS Gorkon}}
<br>
<br>
Lieutenant Junior Grade Doz Finch is an ebullient, upbeat, and action-oriented Human, currently posted as an Engineer to the USS Gorkon, the flagship of the Tyrellian Defence and Exploration Taskforce. Although a lot older than many of her other Human counterparts, Finch's restleness and inability to stay still for too long has enabled her to enjoy a long and fruitful career within Starfleet, first as an Enlisted Officer and later as a Commissioned Officer. Although often the tea-guzzling life of the party, her inability to deal with the grief of losing the most important person in her life forms part of the make up of her personality, and is at this stage in her life, her biggest obstacle.
Lieutenant Commander Tahna Meru along with Ensigns Nera Ay, Vesela Pace, and Solkon led the charge in locating civilian scientists and family of crewmembers trapped in the science labs on the lower decks, including Lieutenant Vylaa zh'Tisav's daughter. The group encountered blown conduits and a raging fire on Deck 17, which they successfully put out before locating the civilians in a series of wrecked labs. With the civilians in tow, the group relocated to a storeroom on Deck 18, away from the action, and borrowed a few Bajoran resistance tactics to set defensive traps for the Borg along the way. With no Borg detected on their deck and battles raging overhead, the group used the Gorkon's computers to send out false life signals to lure Borg on the upper decks to less populated areas of the ship. Ultimately four civilian casualties were reported from the science labs, with three others transported to sickbay for treatment. - by Tahna Meru

Backstory
On the windy Falkland Islands of Earth in the April of 2339, Doz was born to parents Iris and Frederick Finch, and was not only the last child of four, but also the scrawniest.

Life out in the Falklands was blissful, though for much of it her father Frederick worked away for Starfleet on various assignments as an engineer. Their mother Iris kept busy as a specialist petrologist with her studies on the topography of the Falklands, an area well known for its rugged terrain and cliff-lined coasts. Both of her parents originated from the West Midlands region of England, though had moved to the islands in order for Iris to pursue her work. Her pregnancy was quite unexpected and was the main reason they all remained on the island for many years.

In the absence of their father, Doz's brothers turned their small home into a place of electrical wonder. Mechanical contraptions and devices of all variations poked out of the crevices of every room, including a myriad of constantly breaking down robots, something she always found greatly entertaining. Though during her younger years, although she herself managed to absorb a lot of the engineering tips and tricks her brothers had imparted onto her, she didn't really see herself pursuing it as a career.

Although life in the Falklands was dreamy, the Finch's would soon discover that they would be set to move to Mars, to live with Frederick during his latest and potentially final assignment from Starfleet. This idea however was shattered just as soon as it had been found out, as her father barely a day later perished in an accident in space.

The aftermath changed everything; Iris, once a sprightly woman, became steeped in depression and agoraphobia, unable to speak to anyone, look after herself or be a parent to her growing children. It was decided therefore that they would all relocate to Birmingham, in England, to be closer to other family members. Life in Birmingham had its pros; she met Murve Norström, the funny scandinavian friend of her brother Wallace, who she struck an instant bond with. The parties in local parks, and the sunsets. But as with pros, there also came cons, and the biggest of all was her deteriorating mother, and her brothers general disinterest in the issue.

Frustrated by her brothers and their unwillingness to help with their deeply miserable mother, her relationship with each of them strained — even with Wallace, whose parting advise to her ended up planting the seed of her escape. In the absence of Ernie, Arthur and Wallace, Doz stayed busy by learning how to maintain and fix all of the machines and inventions that they had created and installed throughout the family home, eventually lending her hand to those in the neighborhood. Whether technology, or engines or computers, she became, along with Murve who she had lovingly nicknamed Murphy, something of a self-taught technician.
Starfleet Career

At roughly twenty years old, Finch took it upon herself to apply for the Martian Starfleet Technical Services Academy, greatly encouraged by her best friend Murve Norström, lovingly nicknamed Murphy, who believed that she had more talent in engineering than "all three of her brothers put together". Having waited for her to do so, the pair of them set off for the academy, later taking part in its intensive programme that covered a variety of subjects from checking, repairing and servicing starships to the more fiddly arts of reprogramming and reconfiguring computers and their many parts. The abridged programme also involved a myriad of electrical, mechanical, chemical, radiological and nuclear damage scenarios, and the difficulty of it was not lost on Finch who had for so many years done "her own sort of engineering". Upon graduation, she pursued roles in maintenance whereas Murphy preferred electrical ones.

They both shared their first tour of duty aboard the USS Bonestell, serving under a cantankerous Chief Engineer who often separated the two, and liked to punish Finch by having her do maintenance work on the outer hull of the ship. Despite this however, his repeated punishments actually instilled within her an appreciation for spacewalking, which has remained one of her favourite things to do ever since. Her career as an enlisted officer spanned seven ships over forty years —— the last of which was spent on the notorious Intrepid Class starship USS Marigold.

Having reunited with Murphy during this posting, she was quite satisfied with her life until an unexpected disaster resulted in his death. As if history had repeated itself, she was flung into panic, terrified of the way she felt and her reaction to his death, and the all too real possibility of her becoming "like her mother", who had died decades prior. Desperate to distract herself, she asked Captain Koth of the Marigold if she could change her mind about an offer of academy sponsorship that she had declined many times before.

After graduating the Officer Candidate School, she was reassigned to the USS Gorkon, ironically not far from the Marigolds theatre of operation.

With the warp core offline, due to a crack in the intermix chamber established during the fight, as well as damaged dilithium crystals, Lieutenant Gnaxac climbed inside to launch immediate repairs. Lieutenants Vylaa zh'Tisav and Doz Finch arranged his equipment as fires and other mechanical issues raged in their vicinity, leading to at least one fatality. Although tumultuous, the core was fixed, but the reinitialisation delayed as they discovered a second microfracture. To prevent fatigue, Finch and zh'Tisav swapped places with Gnaxac and with use of sealant and a welder, worked quickly to repair it a second time, doing so in difficult heaving conditions as the ships inertial dampeners struggled to keep up with its violent thrust manoeuvres.

File:Murphy.jpg|thumb|left|Murve Norström (Murphy) † was an incredibly important piece of the jigsaw that made up Doz Finch's life; a life-long best friend and confidant from her early Birmingham days, they attended the Mars Tech Academy together, and took their first Tour of Duty together on the USS Bonestell. Reuniting for a marvelous decade on the USS Marigold, a shocking engineering incident led to his death and to Doz's subsequent departure from the enlisted ranks.

Of all the brothers, he is the one she has had the least amount of contact with over the years.

Once the core was brought back online, they tracked its progress meticulously, disturbed soon after by the arrival of drones that had infiltrated their deck using unknown micro-transportation technology. A deadly skirmish ensued. With blades, Finch defended Gnaxac from a wandering drone, as zh'Tisav and a security team took on the rest.

Once the core was secured and safe again, an EMP reverberated throughout the decks, setting conduits and consoles ablaze in Main Engineering, adding the next stage to their Damage Control: Firefighting. - by Doz Finch
